Great news! I'm barely within rescission!

Vacation Village at Parkway got us last week, convincing us to give up our unit at Vacation Village at Grandview in exchange for a points system 2 bedroom unit at Parkway, for an extra ~$10000. They sweetened the deal with some extra weeks, and we signed on 4/7. It's now 4/15, and we have 2 days left on our cooling off period. Thankfully I found this forum and am now writing my rescission letter. I'll be looking to pick something up in the RCI points system in the near-ish future but for the moment am focusing on paying off the Grandview unit. Does anyone have any advice on either topic for me? Thanks!

Just be sure to mail your rescission paperwork via Certified Mail. Retain a copy of your paperwork for your records and be sure to retain a copy of your Postmarked Certified Mailing Receipt and be sure you mail it prior to the date deadline.

Remember, it is not when they receive it but the deadline is the date that it must be Postmarked by. Sounds like you have until April 17th to get it Postmarked and mailed.

They do not have to notify you when they receive the paperwork but they do have to act on it BY LAW. Allow up to 45 days for a refund (may come sooner).

Good move to rescind. Think about purchasing via resale instead.

Thanks! What's the move on purchasing resale? How do I make sure I'm not getting scammed? Do we need to use a broker?

Is RCI the standard for point exchange, or am I missing a better one? I got suckered into a retail purchase for my first unit a couple of years ago and want to make sure I don't repeat that mistake. Also, is Vacation Village seen as a subpar place? I'm seeing a ton of units being dumped from the chain.

The following information applies after you rescind. ( Wanted to highlight that).

Since you are not familiar with the different resort system, it will be to your benefit to stick around this site and learn. This site has discussion boards for all the systems. Research, ask questions.
There are two main exchanges RCI and Interval International (II). RCI has volume and II has generally better quality ( think Marriott, Disney, Westin). That doesn't mean there are not great resorts in RCI cause there are.
RCI has points and weeks, II is mostly weeks.
VV has a lot of units and lots of people who buy them because they are cheap without understanding how to use it. That being said, two of the highest points/maintenance fee ratio you will see are grand view Las Vegas and Regal Vista in Manassuten. Both are VV properties and I have one of those. Haven't stayed in mine yet, I am using it for trading for now.
Some VV properties trade in both RCI and II and that creates a certain appeal.
In summary, VV properties are not Marriotts but for what you pay for it, it can be great. Just make sure you research and buy the unit that gives you the best bang for what you want to accomplish. Even within the same resort property like Grandview Las Vegas, not all weeks are equal.

In addition to Certified Mail (since it can be slow and stressful), I also suggest sending a secondary method (if Email or Fax is in the contract, use that too). If not, send a regular stamped letter with a Certificate of Mailing. You need to go to the post office for this. Be sure to use a stamp as they may not want to use a Certificate of Mailing on the electronic stamp they print from the system.
