A year ago we banked and arranged two weeks through GPX at the Kamole Sands. Holiday Systems International manages the unit for GPX. I spoke with HSI about three months ago and everything looked great. Two nights ago I went online and discovered that Kamole Sands building 7 sold for 825k on June 24. The next day I called GPX and informed them. The following day I received a message from GPX telling me that I needed to contact them before we leave for Maui. I called them back and they informed me that the unit sold and that they no longer had any contracts with Kamole Sands. They told us that they moved us to: 1) Kahana Villa Vacation Club 2) Sands of Kahana. Both are hotels and of a lesser quality. We were excited because the kids had a loft and their rooms were nice and in general the Kamole Sands was really nice. I spoke to the real estate agent today that represented the buyer of Kamole Sands and she confirmed that all contracts have been wiped and that the unit was being renovated. She shared her opinion that she felt it was pretty bad that I had to make GPX aware of the situation only 10 days before our check in date. And when I called the lady from HSI she seemed a little confused and mentioned that she had just got paid for her work from March. This tells me that the relationship between GPX and HSI must have been strained. Or something. The situation is that we don't fully understand everything but are pretty disappointed with getting a lesser quality stay. GPX has offered to give us a week in our account for another stay. May I please ask if anyone has any suggestions about this situation? Thank you very much. PS These two units are managed by Soleli Management so it is a traditional timeshare situation.

It sounds like there’s not much you can do. If they’re willing to let you keep the 2 reservations in the new place and give you a new week, I’d take it and be happy. It seems the old resort likely had financial issues and had to sell off a building. Take that free week and try to book the Carlsbad Inn. It’s right across from the beach and a great location for SoCal.

That stinks. I don't think that there's much that you can do about your upcoming weeks, but I would personally ask for two weeks not just one as you lost a lot of value with both weeks. GPX is the responsible entity here and at the rate they were going you could have shown up with no place to stay. Also I would reach out to someone higher up the food chain to let them know that the exchange department dropped the ball in a big way.

Btw, I am not 100% sure but I don't think that Sands of Kahana has air conditioning. I would try to do a side by side comparison between the properties to bolster your argument about loss of amenities. They also moved you to a completely different part of Maui! I am impressed that they were able to find anything at this late date but at the end of the day it's their problem not yours, and this is hardly comparable.

FWIW back in 2001 we had booked a beautiful oceanfront house in Kona from VRBO. When we arrived we discovered a filthy dirty house that hadn't been cleaned, the sliding doors to the deck overlooking the ocean were rusted shut, the AC didn't work, and I found used syringes in one of the bedrooms. I called the property manager who didn't want to move us (the used syringes were the last straw for me). The only available property was a two bedroom condo. We had to take it. It turned out to be a fantastic place for us, and we returned again the following year as we liked it so much. So my suggestion is to make the best of this change and you never know, it may be all right in the end.

Thank you very much Katherine this was very helpful. I really appreciate it. Nick

Thank you Chris I appreciate your response. Nick PS we love Carlsbad during the winter especially. Our favorite place to visit. I am realizing that the tropics at sea level during the day is not for me. I sit in a tent and I still burn. Ha. Ha. But serious. What we do for our kids right!

Sorry to hear about your situation. At least GPX is trying to help. The sale seems off. The whole building sold for $825K? Seems awfully low.

Good point. My mistake. 7402 sold for $825 so just that unit. I should not have written building. Thank you. PS I agree about GPX they are being very responsive and it is extremely busy and over priced in Maui now so I appreciate it.

That is what I figured out too. I have to be working during the day for most of the days I am a bit concerned I will be boiling. Even if I could just close off a small room with air I would be fine. I did read that if you get a room with an ocean view and or in a certain configuration that the air from the ocean helps a lot. Just won't know until the last minute. Not the end of the world just want to be comfortable I don't do heat too well as I have gotten older especially. : )

GPX really took care of us as a result of this mistake. They really went above and beyond to make it right.
Im super glad that they came through. We've been very happy with them. Are you allowed to share the outcome?

I could but there was a lot behind this situation. Many factors that played a role. I feel like out of respect for GPX I should not.
