Grand Myan 1 in 5 for 2014

I did a search today for a week in 2014 and it only mentioned that the 1-in-5 rule was waived for 2013. Since it is getting close to 2014, I would think that if it were waived for then, it would be listed in the information at the bottom of the list of available units.

Try SFX they never have the 1/5 rule. Looks like you have a lot of resorts I bet they except something you own. SFX does only take top tier resorts for desposit, but they do not charge a membership fee, and their exchange fees are less also. SFX carries a ton of Grand Mayan inventory.

If you take the no membership fee option with SFX the exchange fee is the same as RCI's and about $40 more than II. With RCI I can use a studio to get a 2 br Grand Mayan. With SFX I would need to use a 1 br and pay an extra $199 upgrade fee (1 br deposit plus $398) or use a 2 br deposit along with the $199 exchange fee. With II I can trade into a 2 BR grand luxxe unit with a 1br and sometimes a studio for $164. No 1 in X rule with II. To get the same unit with SFX I would need to exchange a 1br plus $598 or a 2BR plus $399

Unless you pay for the platinum of Diamond memberships with SFX (which both by the way cost more than a 1 year membership with either II or RCI) than SFX exchange fees and upgrade fees are higher than any other exchange company. I have a feeling that my one deposit and 3-5 "bonus/lifestyle weeks" with SFX are going to expire because they couldn't find anything that is worth the exchange fee for me. It was a week that I received free with purchase and I have let cancellation weeks expire in II but I have never not found anything useful to me or my family with any of about 25 deposits made with RCI other than a 2 or 3 tpu leftover that wasn't worth paying to combine and extend.

RCI told me 1 in 5 has been waived for 2014. I was looking for 2015 so I don't know first hand that the agent was correctly informed. But that's what she said....

Perhaps they could get you a New York week? San Francisco for sure.

Btw, I completely agree with your analysis. I would love to use them more but I can stretch my deposits so much farther with II or RCI, even DAE.

//end tangent// ;)

I too am hoping 2015 will be a waived-fee year! We'll have to start another thread later, I guess...fingers crossed! :hi:

I requested NY May-Sept and didn't get anything. I also requested London for September but nothing there. SF is too far.

For those of you concerned about the 1 in 5 rule if you belong to II it does not apply. The Mayan Palace, the Grand Mayan and the Grand Bliss have now joined the Grand Luxxe in II. I was surfing the II exchange website last night and they were all there!

Waived for 2014 in RCI

Restriction: Only one Mayan resort can be confirmed in a 5 year period; This rule will be waived for 2013 & 2014 travel dates only. Maximum 2 units concurrent / multiple are allowed to be confirmed, and the second unit requires a guest certificate. However, the guest certificate is not required if the owner or co-owner of the membership is travelling when booking consecutive weeks.
