Is the pool there heated?? I love the Royal Caribbean but with the pool not being heated I very seldom am able to get in it. Thanks.

Pool at the Royal Carribean

We were swimming at 9pm in late June and it felt like 80 degrees !!

Loved the Royal Caribbean.

Hope you give it another try. Was it in the spring when you visited?

I would like to know, too. I am too chicken to dip into a pool that's less than 80oC in temperature. LOL...

The pool at the Mayan Palace / Grand Mayan Riveria Maya is not heated.

I agree that I don't think the pools are heated, but I'm a cold-water wimp and was able to swim without being cold last April. The ocean was colder so I didn't get in water above my knees.

In comparison, during the same time period a couple of years ago, I could not get in the pools at Atlantis or Harborside, or the ocean. But the air temperature was much warmer in Mexico, too, so maybe that helped as well.

Mayan Pools are heated

I've been to the the Mayan Palace in January 2006 and 2005. The pool was heated both times and almost felt like a hot tub. What I was told last time is that the 2 big fountains/waterfall towers in the section of the pool farthest from the beach are the heaters. I always swam in that upper section and it was toasty warm. When I dipped my foot in at the section of the pool closest to the beach, it was much colder. I thought it was a nice feature, because everyone could find a temperature they liked.

It's been two years since we were at the RC and it was over the Thanksgiving holiday. Great weather but at that time only the Royal Mayan had had their pool retro fitted with a heater. Glad to hear the RC has it now also.

We're going to be at the GM in January 07 so I hope they are heated. I know the weather will be nice because we've been to Cancun in January before and the weather was beautiful.

Thanks to all for your responses.

Larry

I'm considering a trade to the Grand Mayan Riviera in Cancun for January 07. The VC noted that the beach was unswimmable because of construction that is going on. I am wondering just how intrusive this construction will be. She also said there is a perfectly good beach a 5 minute walk away. Is this true? Any advice is appreciated.

Nessie:

The problem with the beach is NOT construction. It is full of rocks!

There is a good beach about 15 (not 5) minutes to the right facing the ocean.

MP Riviera is a wonderful place except for the lack of swimmable beach. We should all put pressure on them to blast the rock out of there.

MP Beach Construction

Some friends of ours just came back from MP Riviera Maya in July. They said that they are rebuilding the beach restaurant that got destroyed in the last hurricane. This could possibly be the construction they are talking about. They said it didn't interfere with the beach area.

I personally liked the beach to the left (when facing the ocean) and about a 5-10 minute walk. If you go to the right, the beach is nice also, but you run into other resorts. So it depends if you want to be around other people or not.

Is there a difference between Grand Mayan Riviera and Grand Mayan Palace? Looks like they are the same place, situated between Cancun and Carmen del Playa.

I'm starting another thread on culture/adventures because I can see I'm going to stray off topic here. Thanks to the many helpful people on this board.

They are on the same property. The Mayan Palace runs up one side and the Grand Mayan is on the other side. They share pools and restaurants.

April 06 - pool was great

The pool at the Grand Mayan/Nayan Palace may be heated or not, but the temps were WONDERFUL!!!!! Best pools I;'ve ever been in

except the lights were not working in the pools at night and it would be dangerous to swim anything like a lap with the cement islands throughout.
