We can't go back to the Mayan resorts because of the 1-5 rule. We had a unit exchanged for week 52 and they cancelled it.......if I rent from the Mayan, am I still excluded from the 1-5 rule? thanks for your input.

I am not sure but I think 1 in 5 only applies with RCI....You may be able to exchange one of your weeks with alternate exchange copmanies DAE, SFX, or TPI, which are free to join.

Could you give me their websites please????? thanks

Grand Mayan and Wyndham

Grand Mayan is now owned by Wyndham. You can book a reservation at the Grand Mayan directly through Wyndham if you want to rent a room. I think Wyndham makes so much more money on renting rooms at the Grand Mayan that they have relaxed the rules on annual MFs if you do not use the GM that year.

The Grand Mayan is NOT owned by Wyndham- it is owned by Group Mayan. (Sr. Chavez) The Wyndham group rents the developer units. I own 4 Mayan Palace units and 2 Grand Mayan units. I do not get any Wyndham exchanges through them.

I was also fooled by that Wyndham thing  (whatever you do do NOT follow their map to the TS) but, I know if anyone has any questions on the Mayan or Grand Mayan-Phyllis is the absolute best source. She probably knows things that Grupo Mayan doesn't even know yet!

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Though off-topic (can't help it, too excited), we'll be at the GM Riviera this Saturday.

Seems like they have something new going on/completed every year we go down, can't wait to check out the latest 'projects'. :D

Pizza67 - have a great trip! When you get back, post and update on the resort.

Did the TS sales reps give me wrong information?

Pittle: I defer to your expertise as I am not a Grand Mayan owner. However, I did spend a week at the Grand Mayan Riveriera Maya in May 2008. We had a wonderful vacation and during that time we attended the TS sales presentation. The sales reps made a very big point of telling us that Wyndham had purchased El Grupo Maya.

Wyndam DOES NOT own Grupo Mayan

Your salesman was lying (what a shock... . Wyndam does not own Grupo Mayan! The two entities are in a joint venture for marketing via renting out rooms.

But Wyndam does own RCI, who also rents out rooms.

This article further explains how the Wyndam brand of resorts, RCI, and other travel/hospitality related entities owned by Cendant have been spun off into a separate entity now branded as Wyndam.

If Monica says it, it is true. In my opinion, she is the best Grupo Mayan expert. I know alot, and so does Greg (aliikai2), but I learned a lot from her. We have all been to the MP/GM enough to make contacts with staff and sometimes get extra information from those who work there. Much of this information is not from the sales force.
