can anyone validate the recent tripadvisor reviews since early March indicating the grand mayan in san jose del cabo is a construction zone again?

rci usually puts construction occurring into the notes of a property and nothing is shown yet. appears to be converting a part of a pool into a new restaurant and lobby renovation but reviews are saying it's quite loud and intrusive on their vacation.

i know this resort went through major construction post hurricane and reports were everything was completed, i exchanged there for end of november. makes me wonder if this construction will be complete by then - anyone have input and know anything about the timeline?

As I understand it - the construction relates to the entertainment and restaurant additions that are connected to Vidanta's entertainment joint venture agreement with Hakkasan Group .

Perhaps someone who has stayed there in 2017 can give details .

I am at the GM Los Cabos right now.

Yes, there is construction. The pool nearest the building is being filled in. They are supposed to build a couple of new restaurants in this area. Finish date is supposed to be late 2017, but that probably will change.

The view from the first couple of floors is right into the construction. Higher floors look out over the construction. Equipment is working all day, but there is little jack hammering.

It is not noisy by the pools. Occupancy feels down, and there is always room by the pool.

We are on a higher floor and are not bothered by the construction.

Today it has become worse.

They installed flood lights and are working into the night. It is 20:15 and the machinery is moving and packing sand. Between the lights and noise, the balconies are not usable.

Will wait to see when they stop, and if they turn off the lights.

I have a Grand Mayan Los Cabos reservation for May 2018. I just received notice from RCI that "The staff at The Grand Mayan Los Cabos has notified us that construction working hours have been extended from: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm."

I've got some time to decide if I want to keep the reservation (standard cancellation guidelines apply) but we were looking at adding this second week in the area so we wouldn't have to skedaddle after a week. Ah, well. As we say down here "ni modo."

We were there March 31-April 7. Yes, there is construction. At that time, there were jack hammering, trucks, and construction in front, back, and side. Back part of one wing was being jack hammered down. I cannot recommend going till it is finished or most of the work finished.

Just came back from cabo GM 4/20-4/27.
Picked the west wing to avoid the Omnia loud music but got hammer noise instead from sunrise to sunset. I was worried about the $30 pp resort fee but did not get charged by some reason:) ( may be they honor my booking was done year ago)

The hotel upgrade is nice but not nice enough to offset the lack of hot tub besides the pool. Very few people swim during the week I stayed. Brio spa is free for guest with gym and sauna, very nice and not crowded.

Beach is nice but wave is huge and not safe to swim, but you can walk alone the beach after sunset or use the cabana and take a nap with sound of the sea.

Take a city tour to Cabo San Lucas $100 per couple, covering both cities, lunch and boat tour to arch/lands end. Looks good but not worth it, the tour bus stopped at least 5 places for shopping and not actual sightseeing. You can spend $2 to take bus yourself to go to Cabo San Lucas and walk to town of San Jose free ( go there Thur slightly before sunset for art walk is nice)
