Grand Canyon Tours

We'll be staying in Sedona at the Ridge on Sedona Golf in early May and want to take a day trip to the Grand Canyon. Can anyone recommend a tour company. We'll just be doing the one day and don't want to drive ourselves. The time sahre says they can arrange it and give us money off if we attend a sales talk which we definitely don't want to do. Want to book in advance so we're not closed out.

I don't have any tour company names, but just thought I'd tell you it takes only about an hour and a half or two to drive it. Something to keep in mind if you don't find a tour you like.

The Grand Canyon is best experience by getting out, walking and taking in all the views. I would also recommend driving yourself, not sure what a tour would add other then saving you the drive. For a day trip I would drive to the Grand Canyon Visitors Center (south rim) and walk the rim trail to Bright Angel Lodge. This section of the rim trail is ~3 miles long but is paved and relatively flat. Along the rim trail is the 'Trail of Time', Yavapai Museum, and numerous places to sit and enjoy the views. Have lunch/dinner at the Bright Angel or El Tovar restaurants. There are shuttle buses to take you back to the Visitors Center if you don't feel like walking back.

Thank you for the info. I'll relay it to my DH and see how he feels about that. We are renting a car but he doesn't always like to drive.

For me, it's important to see the canyon in different lights. Sunset is wonderful; then the bats come out of the canyon. Sunrise is totally different from Sunset. I love getting there in the afternoon, walking along the rim and examining whatever I can, having dinner/cocktails at El Tovar (make the reservation early; they fill months in advance--they keep the sunset calendar on the reservation desk so you can work around it for your reservation), staying overnight and getting up early to watch the sunrise. After that, drive along the rim on your way to wherever you are going and stop as long and as often as you want. I feel like it is one of the natural wonders of the world; it deserves time to appreciate it.

We have taken the same company twice - don't know if they're still in business - Blue Feather Tours! They pick you up first thing in the morning, you do an IMAX theater, lunch at El Tovar and several stops in different places along the rim of the canyon! Both times the drivers were very knowledeable - oh and we went back through Navajo country and stopped at the Cameron Trading post.
