Congrats Ellen!
Sounds like some great trips for 2009! It's a good time to use those hotel certificates, after 2009 they'll only be good for a 5 night stay.
I can't answer that - never been there. My father is getting old. He no longer is willing to fly. He does, however, want to vacation with us and the grandchildren (and my mom - his wife) and play cards. All he wants to do is play cards and go out to eat.
We live in Phili, so it seemed smart. We'll do some things with the kids during the early part of the day, then play cardes with them and go out to dinner. No need to feel guilt about the kids since we will have returned from our family Hawaii trip.
I'll certainly write a trip report.
We just love Aruba and intend to hold onto that timeshare (bought resale). But with parents getting old, we want to have as much time and fun with them as possible. Life is short.
I understand the syndrome well. My mother is deceased. My father is too sick to travel. My wife wants to spend as much time with her mother as she can while her mother is healthy enough to travel. We took her mother and sister with us to the Grand Mayan Riviera Mayan in May and recently came back from a weekend trip to Marble Falls, Texas that we took with her mother and sister. I paid for them to join us for our Spain-Canary Island-Morocco cruise in February 2009 using HGVC points.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn on the Lake. The last time we were in Marble Falls we stayed at the Marriott Resort on Horseshoe Bay. This is a beautiful all year long golf resort right on Lake LBJ. It is a favorite Texas destination for a wedding. There really is a great deal to do in the Texas Hill Country. The Marriott Resort on Horseshoe Bay is currently a Level 5 resort and you may wish to consider this as a Texas vacation on the Colorado River in the Hill Country.
