Good Deal for Marriott Ko Olina?

Can anyone tell me what the going rate is for a 2 bedroom lockout, mountain view, at Ko Olina? We are looking at buying for use, not investment, and we already have 1 week we bought on second market two years ago.

We saw one ad on a separate site for $16,500, use starting in 2009. Should we purchase or can better buys be found?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm no expert, but we just bought an EOY for $8200. The last EOY closing on ebay was for the low $4000's. The one before that went for around $6000. So if the one you saw is for annual, it might be okay. It's anyones guess whether price goes up or down from here, and my guess is that many people here will tell you that for sure prices will still go down, so how much of a gambler are you? I don't feel bad that I bought at the price I did, it was still way down from a few months ago. Sometimes it's hard to judge the bottom.

Thanks Tango. It says it is for an annual use 2 bedroom lockout in a mountain view, so somewhere around 2X the price of your every other year. Any suggestions on where to look for the best prices? Or do you generally have to negotiate your way down to better prices?

I would suggest looking at the completed listings for the last few Ebay auctions and copy the prices and the links. Use that information for negotiating better prices. Remember- asking prices are just that, and some seller won't budge and others will take a lot less. Send a polite e-mail with a reasonable offer, leaving yourself some wiggle room for a counter-offer. You can politely let them know what the current pricing has been (as in similar units have recently sold for...). The price may come as a shock to some (many) sellers and you won't get a response, but the more anxious ones will reply back.

In today's market, I'd hold out for a more anxious seller.

Most of the sales on ebay are by resellers. You have to do your due diligence with them, this board has many different experiences. I think that you get lower prices with resellers as some people are hesitant to deal with them. That said, if the price is low enough, it might be worth taking a chance. I think that you have to have a strong stomach when dealing with an unknown reseller, and know what price you are going to stick to, to avoid being sold a bill of goods.
Other than ebay, I've mainly looked at the classifieds here and at redweek. But the sellers in these places are expecting higher prices than you'll find on ebay.
