Our family has been watching the gold mining show Gold Rush Alaska. So now the family wants to do a trip to pan for gold....

I can say that the family does well when digging for diamonds at the State Park in AR. Never found anything, but they spent hours and hours digging, etc.

So they say they would be willing to work for 2-3 days panning, digging for gold. The most important thing is to actually find something. Even if only a few dollars worth of gold.

So has anyone had experience at a location, etc, etc. Feel free to let me know where you went, costs, and most important, did you find anything

Thanks

As a California resident, I know that a lot of gold panning (and sluice dredging and some other stuff) happens in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California and in the Sierra Mountain rivers; and many other places.

For the San Gabes, stays in Pasadena etc would be pretty close.

For the Sierras, Sacramento, Tahoe and a few other places would give access with a couple hour drive to many rivers.
