We're going to Cabo for the first time in May and will be staying at Casa Dorado Spa & Golf Resort in San Jose del Cabo. Would appreciate any advice, tips, and not to miss things to do. Please recommend any Restaurants and anything else we should plan on. Thanks for any advice!!!

If you go to any presentations, resist the urge to purchase a timeshare at the presentation, as you can usually find these timeshares for way less else where.

We'll be going too for the first time about 1 year from now, so after your May trip please post or send any first-timer suggestions. We'll stay about 0.5 mile to the NE up the beach from you at one of those timeshares or maybe at the Riu where a wedding will be.

Car rentals in Mexico can be a real hassle, dishonest, and a ploy to get you to attend timeshare presentations. You will see rates on many sites, i.e., kayak, Travelocity, etc for daily rates as low as $4 - it is not true! There is a mandatory insurance everyone must get which can run $15-$25 per day. Of you want to use your credit card for the rest of your coverage, you can do so but the agencies other than the above will hound you and tell you all sorts of lies about the coverage you need. Expect to pay about $300 or more for a week.
Now that I may have scared the bejesus out of you, we always rent a car and find it very easy to get around. You are staying closer to San Jose but are not in town, Cabo San Lucas is about a 30 minute drive so you may want a car. If you rent a car, read the Trip Advisor Cabo San Lucas Forum regarding gas stations. When looking for restaurants and other particulars, visit both the San Jose and CSL forums

After you pass through security there is a gauntlet of timeshare salespeople that you must pass through to get to the outside and your transportation. They will ask what resort you're staying at, as if they are going to arrange transportation to your resort; they only want to sign you up for a timeshare presentation!!! DONT STOP, don't feel the need to respond to their questions, just keep walking!!!
