Going on first TS pitch - accommodation supposed to be free?

Hi,

I recently got called by Wyndham Vacation Resorts to come out and consider purchasing a timeshare in Hawaii. They initially said that I would need to pay $798 for the accommodation for 7 nights. They later reduced it to $498 after I gave a little bit of resistance.

I'm new to Timeshares but I always thought that, at the very least, they would always cover the accommodation cost. Is it because it's in a more exotic location like Hawaii?

Any advice on what I should do?

I told them that I needed to do more research so they're going to call me on Monday to followup.

Thanks,

Sal

I'd hold out for the whole week free, have a great week, and by no means buy anything from them. Tell them on Monday that you just can't afford the two plane tickets AND the accomodations. I bet they will be more than happy to have you stay free if you sound willing to come and to listen to the pitch.

JMHO of course.

I know where this is going been there and done that not only with Wyndham but Westgate as well. They will tell you the presentation will take 90 mins which turns out to be 3 to 4 hr's and it will be a high press sell pitch in which they won't take no for a answer. Be very careful here and don't get sucker into something you will regret later remember a new TS like a new car it depreciate as soon as you buy it. I myself would never buy a TS new from the developer but buy used there alot out there for sell and you won't be stuck with a high mortgage or for that matter any mortgage at all as we see now and only the yearly MF. Goodluck!

I would think it all depends upon "where" the accomodations are that you will be staying. I know you said that they are trying to sell you a "Hawaii" Wyndham timeshare, BUT, would you be attending the presentation at the actual resort they are trying to sell, and staying at that resort, or some other place/location?

If it is in Hawaii, and staying at the actual resort, $498 is a great deal, in my opinion. If it is at a resort I'm thinking about, the going rate is $250-$500 per night.

As someone else stated, remember to say "NO" !!!

Just remember that no matter how much they charge you for the room, saying "yes" or "sounds good" to any T/S offer these jokers make you will cost you a heck of lot more in unnecessary expense than that room would.

BTW, there's a clause hidden in the fine print that says:
"The phrases 'not interested' or 'can't afford it,' shall be construed to mean "I want to buy the most run-down, overpriced unit in the least desirable location... just keep me here for another 30 minutes."

This is like SexEd

OK, I hope I don't offend anyone here, but...

1. Take "birth control" with you. Go online (TUG ads are a good place to start) and find out what the Wyndham resort you're looking at sells for resale. PRINT OUT the ads, and take them with you!

2. Go on the "date". Enjoy yourself. But just say "No."

3. In the event you slip up and say "Maybe", you're really in for the high pressure. But you'll get a nicer dinner!

4. If you say "No" to "Going all the way" (buying) they will try to get you to get you to do something a little less extreme, but still pleasurable to them: Buying some other sort of "club" or "vacation package". Again, just say no.

5. In the event you "Go all the way" and buy, make sure you leave the room with all of your "clothes" - every piece of paper you signed. You will need them later in order to...

6. Go back to your room and think - not just feel - the weight of your decision. Work the numbers. The resort will try to prevent you from doing this by offering you all sorts of things to do while you're there - excursions, meals, etc. Remember - they want you to keep their baby. They don't want you to...

7. Abort. The official word is "Rescind". In the U.S. you have 7 days. (From the day you signed, not the day you get back home.) There are many, many threads here on TUG about how to go about doing this. And know ahead of time that there will be many "protesters" trying to prevent you from rescinding.

8. Consider "adopting" (buying the same baby resale) for a lot less money. A LOT less. Which, in hindsight, you'll know...

Especially if you did your "birth control" before going on this date...:D

They will hope you buy early in the week and enjoy the rest of the time vacationing. By the time you get home it may be too late to rescind. If you get stuck purchasing, go back to the hotel, relax, read the documents and rescind while on the island. Put it in the mail. Don't go to their offices.

This is a very true statement. They always want you to take the tour early in the vacation. I never considered this, but it makes perfect sense. You're vacationing, enjoying yourself and by the time you get back home and really think about it-------BAM, it's too late to rescind.
