Global Entry processing now 13-14 months

DP: I am 6 months prior to expiration. Applied for renewal on a Friday. Was approved the following Monday. Card arrived 2 weeks later. No interview requested.

I wish I got that. I got interviews on both my GE and my Nexus Renewals.

Mine took about 6 months on a renewal. Then I waited about six months to schedule my Nexus interview to coordinate with my Thanksgiving trip to Canada this week.

My Nexus renew interview is this Friday. My Global Entry is still valid but I wanted to get my Nexus back with the possibility of having a few trips home. I used to have to pay Nexus out of pocket, as most of the CC offers where for Global Entry only. About 2 year ago they switched their T&Cs and now they will cover the $50 Nexus option which includes the $100 Global Entry as part of it.
Is having both Nexus and Global entry beneficial?

When you get Nexus, you can also use Global Entry lines/kiosks for entry to the US at ports of entry and airports. Nexus is better for those going to Canada as it provides expedited entry into Canada. Nexus is half the price of GE.

If you just get Nexus you get TSA pre-check and global entry included- plus you have the added benefit of using the nexus lines at the US/Canadian boarders.

Nexus use to only be $50 which made it an even better choice; but it is now the same $120 as Global Entry. There is one cost savings opportunity though- if you have minor children Nexus is FREE for them! Global Entry is the same $120 per person price regardless of age.

The downside is you have to do your interview at a US/Canadian boarder site. So if you live too far from the boarder to make that feasible Global Entry is likely easier for you.

This was changed as of this month- Global Entry for children is free for children under 18 as long as a parent or legal guardian is enrolled in Global Entry.
