I donated within the past year to Donateforacause.org and had the proceeds go to the International Hearing Dog Foundation. It was great for me, the new owner and the organization that provides dogs for the hearing impaired. Would definitely do it again -- just make sure you have all your papers in order or it will cause things to get delayed.

Over the years I have given away a bunch of Weeks to charity but it is getting way tougher now because of the lower value of many Weeks.

It used to be that the charity would immediately take title to the Week removing your responsibility for future MFs. Today most leave the Week in your name leaving you on the hook until the Week is sold.

Only USA?

You guys that have been sucessful at donating your timeshares, have they all been USA based companies and timeshare destinations? I have tried with a few American chairities including 'Donate For A Cause' but they dont want it, I assumed because our timeshare is in India.

Marketability --- not location...

Any charity needs to turn a donation into cash by selling it, easily and quickly, for it to be of any value or interest to them at all.
Their acceptance / rejection decision is based upon that sole criterion (not the geographic location of the timeshare). Many USA location "offerings" are also promptly rejected if the charity rep determines no marketability.

You will want to try searching for resales at your resort as if you were a buyer. You won't have as many viable options as others, and I'm not aware of any legitimate charities that would accept the ownership in any form other than a listing (there is even a good chance your resort won't allow a us based business to hold the ownership). Your property will likely be a niche marketplace- so it's very possible you'll have to look at international venues for possible sales.

Good luck.
