girl fight

I know you never said TKD or any other form of karate. TKD and most other karate are not truly meant for self defense. They focus on striking skills. They commonly use offense as defense.

I do condone your daughters behavior and feel quite the same as others above that she shouldn't have much trouble with any kids in school who remember this incident. There are however other non striking, defensive martial arts (Judo and Jujutsu) that are more appropriate for younger children to learn, but she can't be blamed for for acting as she was taught.

Our kids learned Okinawa Kenpo Karate. Our oldest son switched to TKD and mixed martial arts. He is teaching the little family members TKD as he feels kids pick this up faster.

Aly has cryed a bit over this and our daughter did talk to the principle and did have changes made to the report that refect what really happened. This is Aly's first ever trouble at school.

I am glad that Aly defended herself. It's easy to say afterward that this or that was "too much" but when it's happening, it happens fast!

We had my daughter in karate for 1 year (she lost interest when it when it moved into more "real" fighting). DD is a big girl but a complete marshamallow. Not an aggressive bone in her body. But my hope is that if ever she is attacked she will recall ANY move that will allow her to protect herself. I have told her that she is totally allowed to protect herself and that MY job is to deal with the school. There has not been any incident and I hope with every breath that there never will be. But I don't live with my head in the sand either.

I have also recently started to insert the "go down fighting" comments when it comes to "bad guys". Bad guys lie... they will NOT let you go; they WILL hurt you. You fight and you fight until you can't, no matter what.

It's a nasty world out there (it's wonderful too!).

This reminds of another recent thread... and I come down on the innocent doesn't mean ignorant side of things. Kids need to be prepared. Knowledge is power... the power to say NO, the power to manage tough situations, and the power to defend as necessary.
