I have been offered a timeshare gift of up to 3 properties in Ocean City, MD. I will only pay maintenance fees ($1650 total for all three). Our hope would be to trade the weeks in for other properties. Would you accept this gift? All three, some, or none?

It might be helpful to know what resorts you are getting, what week #, size, etc to gauge trading power.
Also, can you benefit from owning it? In other words, can you use it to your benefit (where do you want to go, when, what size do you want?).

Finally, I am presuming you know the individual gifting you this timeshares.

I know the individual. The buying power is approximately 15 points for each unit. We would probably rarely go there because the weeks are during school. One is a red week.

I’d pass. Depositing and trading through an exchange company gets expensive. Three timeshares at once is a lot for a newbie. The person gifting them will be relieved to be rid of them, but it probably shouldn’t be you.

Hard to tell based on the limited information provided.
Depending on your goals, some system/resorts are better to own than others.

It’s easy to pickup a free/cheap timeshare but some timeshares can be extremely hard to get rid of.

Here are some questions you can answer to focus your timeshare wants/needs.

Suggestion - copy the questions below, and start a new thread entitled "My Survey" or "What should I buy?," or something similar, and answer the questions in a NEW thread.

1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?

4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself?

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?

11) Are you a detail oriented planner?

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?

None of those weeks are "bright red". At a beach resort, summer weeks are the high demand weeks. Since the weeks are not prime season, that lowers the demand, and the week will not trade particularly well. Also, it is "unrated" in RCI. That means few amenities, and typically a low level of luxury.
Definitely pass. You can get free timeshares that will trade much better.

15 TPU's each, and paying three maintenance fee is a NO from me. Not only would you have to pay yearly dues in RCI and trade fees, you would need to pay a combine fee to add together the TPU's from all three units to get a great trade.

Welcome to Tug. I suggest you stick around, learn and in time you will have the skillset to acquire a great timeshare, possibly for free too, that will work better for you and your family.

Correct, I am in the process of giving away an RCI participating timeshare that is worth up to 32 TPU, for once MF of about $600/year.

Right here on TUG 🥳 Take your time to find the right deal for you, it is out there just be patient.

Where do I find other properties for free?

Here is a another one that a TUG member is giving away. From what I gather, maintenance fee should be around $1200 for 56 TPUs (always lock off).

Read the last three postings.
As you can see from all the above posts and these, you can do better than these three you are being gifted.

Panina is correct.
15 trade power units in RCI is quite low. If the place you want to go costs 17, you have to combine. Not only is there a combine fee, but if you combine this year with next year, the expiration date of the later year week is shortened.
Nice places cost 30 - 45, and the nicest cost 50 - 60.

If someone has not yet mentioned it you need to know the maint. fees go up every year, then there could also be special assessment . Best to learn more about timeshares before you get one 2¢

And you have to pay to combine your points if you have to add them together to get enough for a vacation.

My advice: HARD PASS!
