does anyone know if clubs are treated the same as timeshares if you just want to stop paying dues?

If it's just a travel club and you no longer want the membership, just stop paying. They have no hold on you except a 'right to use'.

You still might face a bunch of collection calls and letters but they probably have no weight.

The obvious "treatment" difference from a legal perspective is that literal "foreclosure" is a procedural option for non payment of maintenance fees in a deeded ownership, but when it's just a "club membership" in which there is no actual ownership of anything, there is really nothing on which to "foreclose", per se. All a "club" can really do is terminate the "membership" for non-payment of fees (likely occurring only after some unproductive collection attempts).
