Gas prices — wowza!

I just gassed up at Newport News, VA - Costco for $3.16, this is cheaper than MI prices

Sam's Club in our hometown is $3.32. Not bad.

I haven't seen prices for regular that low, but the price for flex fuel (E85) is 2.75 at Meijer in Brunswick. 60 cents less than regular.
Be careful about using E85. My mechanic told me never to use it unless you had a car that was made to be able to use it. The ironic thing is that Ethanol costs more to produce and has higher environmental impact than regular gas, and can impact the corn supply. Farmers are happy because they get subsidies.

It also has less potential energy and lowers fuel efficiency by ~20%. For me there was no savings, simply had to fill up more frequently due to shorter range. In other words if its 15% cheaper you are losing money.

I don't use or need flex fuel. I was just indicating the large gap in the price. At any pump that includes E85 there is a sticker indicating not to use it unless your car's engine can handle it. I had car which my granddaughter now has that used either regular or flex. On occasion I used flex when I could find it. The cost of flex was always less but, usually just a few cents less. Never 60 cents. I don't think there are many vehicles on the road now that can use the E85.

We are a little under $ 4 for regular right now but yesterday got gas in DE for $3.149.

$3.9999 in Western CO.

Sorry to join this thread so late and take it back to an earlier discussion, but I feel I just have to respond. There are numerous reasons why gas prices are so much higher in CA (best summarized in this thread by @klpca and @emeryjre), but higher gas taxes account for only a tiny percentage of the differential between CA and other states. Yes, we pay the highest gas tax in the country, but according to the article presented upthread, it's only 11-12 cpg higher than the next two highest states, IL and PA. I'm pretty certain that gas prices in those states are far, far lower than in CA than just by 11 cents. More like dollars and dollars.

And @klpca is right - the air in Southern CA is night-and-day clean compared to what it was in the 1960s and 1970s.

Using the "gas buddy" website, the cheapest gas in the Escondido (Southern Ca.) area is around $5.60 to $5.70.

$3.24 at Costco in St. Augustine today.

Going to our "winter blend" on 10/1 in SE Wisconsin, we saw a nice drop in prices this week. Sam's Club by our house down from $3.39 to $3.11!
It was $3.06 on Thursday at Sam's Club . . . and $2.89 (cash or Discover only) across the street at Woodman's.

Today at Costco in Salem Oregon it was $3.999 per gallon.

Just paid $2.98 in Greeneville, North Carolina. first time under $3 in a long time, but I am surprising that the attacks on Israel have not already driven up gas prices. Trouble in the Middle East usually has that effect.

It's $7.15 per gallon here in rural UK. California is closing in, though.

$3.09 per gallon for reg gas at Costco in Npt News, Va . Yesterday.

2.989 @ a Sheetz today in Strongsville, Oh.

That is $0.47/gallon less than the $4.46 I paid at the Costco in Albany, OR on August 7, 2022. (I was driving a rented Chevy Malibu. Got 44 mpg driving 2-lane highways between the Nampa, ID Costco and the Albany, OR Costco fill-ups.) The fuel savings versus driving my Dodge RAM 3500 pickup paid for more than half the rental cost on that 4,300 mile roundtrip drive-to vacation.

Paid $4.50/gallon in Eugene, OR on August 26, 2022.

Maybe people just have a short memory when it comes to gas prices.

What did you pay in 2021, 2020 and 2019

$4.99 at Costco near San Diego on Saturday coming across from Arizona in our old 2003 Avalon. We are getting 28.5 MPG in that car. But we ate cheap lunch at Costco and had the strawberry soft serve ice cream, which was delish.

I remember thinking many, many years ago (well before Covid) that I would never pay under $3/ gallon again. But trying to time gas prices is like trying to time the stock market…you’ll lose more often than you win. Find the place that tends to be consistently a cheaper option over time (fur us here, it’s Costco, Sheetz, and Speedway, in that order,) drive the most efficient car you can that meets your needs, and then don’t worry about it. You’ll be dollar-cost averaging gas at that point. :)

The only other recent drive-to Oregon vacation (Toyota Corolla rental) was in 2020 where I paid $2.59/gallon on July 26, 2020 and $2.39 in Newport, OR on August 11, 2020. Those were the days ...

Any more questions? :LOL::LOL:
Then I guess you are the one with the short memory on gas prices? Not sure why you called out others. You seem to be happy that gas is down $0.50. These seems like a common line that many people use. Gas is cheaper than a year ago. Big whoop, it was a lot cheaper in our recent memory. I suspect that you would rather pay $2.36 than $3.99?
