Do these matter when it comes to II exchanges for another Marriott or even outside of the system? Let's say I have a 1br, Platinum, gardenview at my home ts.. and want to exchange it ..as an example, will I be limited to only gardenview 1br (discounting the potential of seeing larger) exchanges into Aruba Ocean/Surf Club?

No, trading companies don't consider view.

Which I always thought was a weakness of the systems because obviously an oceanfront view would logically have higher trade value but I assumed it isn't part of the equation because it adds another layer of criteria which may not be possible to manage from a systems standpoint.

When you deposit a week in to II, they don't consider the view, and when you get your confirmation there is no guaranty of getting a certain view. Now in many cases you can see the view that you exchanged in to if you look your reservation up on Marriott.com, but the resort doesn't have to place you in that view. Though in many cases they do.

So if you deposit a garden view at ABC resort and you get a confirmation in to an Ocean Front at DEF resort, you may get that actual OF unit, or you might not. There is no guaranty.

II may not consider the view but apparently the DC does. My son-in-law and daughter are headed for MOW to an oceanfront 2br unit. In order to complete the reservation they had to accept a garden view the last night of their stay. That means they will have to move to the garden view rather than stay in the oceanfront.

While it's not much of an inconvenience it does show that views are important when using DC points. I don't see anything wrong with the policy as long as it applies to everyone.

In DC, I can understand. Someone else likely has that OF room booked on DC points or home resort stay. So unless there is an OF room that is going to sit empty for that night, they just can't accommodate someone to an OF room when they have a GV booked.

In the DC at the resorts which have different views you "pay" for a certain view with, for example, oceanfront costing more Points than oceanside, which costs more Points than gardenview, etc... I'd be furious if I redeemed enough DC Points for one view but the resort tried to place me in another that required fewer Points. Plus, I'd worry about how else that resort might be mismanaging the inventory.

The view guarantee is one of the things that makes me prefer DC exchanges to II ones - if they start mucking around with that I will be one very unhappy camper.
