This is a sweet little resort in West Maui, one of the few with air conditioning, backs to the Kapalua golf course, and it's been recently remodeled. The units are comfortable and nice for two people.

I never got that why so many Hawaii resorts lack AC

maybe lack on infastructure to have enough electricity to run AC units all over the Island's?

This one being more inland, across from Napili Beach, probably really has to have AC. No ocean breezes.

Across the street is the Napili condos and small motels. Check the prices on rentals for those and then enjoy a stay with a full kitchen, washer/dryer and two bathrooms at Gardens at West Maui.

I am fond of the place. We stayed there a few times, since we were owners, and we sold the week for what we paid for it. It was our first timeshare on Maui. We have great memories of our stay. Nice BBQ grills, small pool, but walk across the road to the ocean through the Napili resorts. Close to some of the better restaurants. Really, this resort backs to the expensive Kapalua golf course.
