FYI - Disney World and Universal closing for COVID-19

Lots of things are canceled in Central Florida, chaotic spring break

Really heavy traffic in southwest Florida, much more than usual.

Here's some details direct from Disney.

This is crazy. But I guess we have no choice. Damn viruses

Early April might be a good time to visit.

When Disney reopen how can they keep families members, children and crowds six (6) feet apart?

I doubt that they'll reopen until after that recommendation has been cancelled, because, as you imply, keeping people 6 feet apart in the parks would be impossible. The Orange County order currently extends to April 9 - but could easily be continued beyond that, depending on the situation at the time.

They could do what my grocery did to keep peep waiting in line 6' apart...
Put little 'x's in blue tape on the ground. Or perhaps, little Mickey's.
.

Universal is closed until 4/19. I expect Disney to do the same. Mid May is more realistic.

The Cast Member schedules through April 4 came out, and some of the janitorial and attractions CMs are scheduled to work "sporadically" (for sanitation and maintenance) according to posts on the DIS. Most attractions CMs are not scheduled to work during that time.

No official word from Disney so far as to length of closure.

I agree mid-May seems realistic.

Disney is not committing to a date further out than 4/9 so far. I am hoping to go 5/17-5/31. Staying at Marriott's Cypress Harbour.

I am hoping a treatment that is effective is right around the corner.

Remember the movie Contagion? That was a good movie and has been on my mind lately. It's not free on the streaming services we pay for, but it should be because I cannot think of a more appropriate time to watch it.

I remember the end was quite telling. I hope we don't become THAT at the end of all of this. You have to watch the movie to understand. I am not giving it away.

There’s another movie, Pandemic, re the same situation. Anyone who thinks the public health community had no plans for a pandemic is sorely misinformed. The plans were in place but not implemented timely by the authorities.
