Funny email from Marriott Re Fairways Pool Rehab

I got this in an email yesterday about my November 15th week at Marriott's Fairway Villas. Read it carefully and find the problem!!


Dear Icydog,

We look forward to seeing you during your upcoming stay at Marriott's Fairway Villas. We would like to inform you that the indoor portion of our pool facility will be closed for necessary upgrades starting Monday, November 9, 2015 for approximately 11 days.

The outdoor portion of our pool facility will remain open and heated for your enjoyment. We also have made arrangements with an adjacent hotel's indoor pool for our guests to utilize. Due to the popularity of our resort, there is never a good time to do maintenance projects but we hope you understand they have to be done in order to keep Marriott's Fairway Villas looking and operating great.

If you have any questions, please contact the property directly at 609-748-4700.

I don't know - maybe you have to be personally familiar with the resort to see it?

This was my first ownership 15 years ago and I visit frequently. I don't see anything odd in the email.

The indoor pool will be closed, however, the indoor pool is heated and will be available for your enjoyment.

I'm sure they meant the heated outdoor pool will be available.
 
I think it's that it says the outdoor pool will remain open for your enjoyment, but no one in New Jersey is gonna want to go swimming outdoors in November. Though today it is unseasonably warm in the low 70s here in Connecticut.

It's says, "outdoor pool."

To me, a "problem," means an error in the email, but I don't see it.

I have seen people in pools and hot tubs at resorts in the snow, so it may appeal to some people - especially if a pool is a novelty for them.

I read Indoor the first time. I just think the joke is that someone would swim outdoors in NJ in November.

OK - but I wouldn't characterize that as a "problem." :shrug:
 
I am in NJ - dues WEST of Atlantic City ... the outdoor weather is great for this week ... as I spent $1050 to rent a 40' boom truck to have my contractor to spend 7 of the next 8 days ... 10 hours a day ... repointing my full brick 1929 building built. Even beg the city to CLOSE the side street during our work hours ... and they supplied the cones and barrels.

Perfect outdoor weather ... above 60 degrees, no wind and sunny.

I would sit in an OUTDOOR heated pool here. My contractor might prefer a hot tub though.

I really am happy to get this project worked on .... now, I just need to RENT my Pompano timeshare for Thanksgiving week ... that has a GREAT outdoor heated pool ... with WARM sun (I wear plastic sunglasses in that pool with a baseball cap). I have to pay for the contractor.

BINGO Nobody in NJ would think of of swimming OUTDOORS in November. It's tooooo COLD
 
Maybe it's a Jersey thing. Outdoor pools are meant for the summer. Going outside to swim in November could surely be a problem! I don't know anyone who'd do it.

OK - but how about visitors who might want to swim on vacation, especially children? I've seen people swim in the snow at ski resorts.

I just don't see it as a "problem." I was looking for an error in the email.

Those are hot tubs aren't they? This is just a heated pool. The pools at the Fairways are normally empty in the winter. I believe they do this to stop the concrete from breaking due to frozen water.

Don't take this too seriously. I said it was a funny email. The use of the word "problem" seems to have been a problem for some readers. I just meant as a NJ resident--this seems very funny to me.
 
No, not hot tubs - heated pools at ski resorts and casinos in the Sierras.

It doesn't appeal to me either, but I think it would appeal to younger people and kids, that don't have a pool at home.
 
Denise, I hear you but it just sounds crazy to be swimming outside in November in Jersey. I think the person who sent out the email made a mistake.

I called the resort. They ARE going to keep the outdoor pool by the Elizabeth Arden Spa open. She said they'll have a water feature running 24 hours a day to keep the pool from freezing over. She admitted this has never been done.

As an aside, I've seen kids in the pools at Walt Disney World in January when the weather in Orlando was 50 degrees. I always thought this practice was nuts, but the kids never minded ---until they came out that is!

But AC is MUCH colder than Orlando. I'll let you know how this works out when I'm down there in two weeks.

Well, one of our favorite hotels in Montreal (the Bonaventure) has a heated rooftop pool that we absolutely love to swim in in the winter, so it's not that crazy!
 
I'll be curious whether it gets much use. Besides this Indian Summer that AC is apparently experiencing, am I the only one that's amused by an open pool that requires an operating water feature to prevent it from icing over?

it is not crazy in CA. i have seen them doing it with lots of snow around at Lake Tahoe and Mommoth Mountain too.

I live in LI and like AC right off the ocean so it can be slightly less cold. When I read the email, I did not found the problem but I did say to myself, are they ***king kidding. I would guess a large portion of the population would not think a heated pool in NJ during November is a viable replacement option for an indoor pool.

I stayed at the Fairways New Years in 2013. I used the indoor pool a couple of times with my wife after going for massages. Most timeshares that have indoor pools are not very conducive for adult enjoyment and mainly to serve kids.

As kids would say to me ... "suck it up and jump in"

The pools at the Elizabeth Arden Spa are actually more like hot tub/mineral pools. Three or four in total.
It will be really nice to use outdoors in November. And the adjacent indoor hotel pool will also be available to you.. ... You can go from the outdoor heated pools to the spa jacuzzi and steam rooms. Sounds good to me.

So I think the email is accurate and you will have a nice time during your visit.

As a PS, We keep our hot tub open in eastern LI until Christmas and only close it because we are away a lot after that.

Swimming when it's 50 outside is nuts? I guess one person's odd is another person's normal.

I've been visiting ski resorts in winter for decades. Everyone swims in the heated (70+ degree) pools, and hot tubs, when its snowing on you. Now when it gets down around zero, you better have your boots, sweats and jackets ready after you get out!

Icydog, you've never visited an alpine resort in winter?
