Is this a warning to resorts considering leaving the Starwood family? Leave the mother ship and your week will become practicality worthless?

Resorts that are still with Starwood are posted on the Bargain Deals forum all the time.... On the resale market, many SW resorts have no value. I don't think this resort actually had any resale value BEFORE they left Starwood either - so no change really.

tahoejoe, ... "Is this a warning to resorts considering leaving the Starwood family? Leave the mother ship and your week will become practicality worthless?"

No. Weeks at VCC were practically worthless before VCC left the SVO fold.

What will be affected by leaving SVO is trading power in II. There will be no Starwood preference for VCC depositors to reserve at Starwood properties. There will be no attraction to VCC for II traders due to the Starwood name. The lack of attraction trading in should reduce the reciprocal II trading power trading out set by II. ... eom

Ken, ... Reread both posts. We both agree that VCC was worthless before. But, we disagree about the cause.

From DeniseM's post it's all about Starwood. I think weeks at well-run resorts like Marriott and 4 Seasons are also selling for a few cents on the dollar - just like the cabin in the woods timeshares.

DeniseM says no change in the future for VCC owners. I say that VCC owners will lose trading power and the Starwood preference in II by not being in SVO.

One of us will be right. ;) ... eom

jarta - you have a vivid imagination - no where did I state or even hint that Starwood was the "cause" of the resale value, and no where did I state or even hint about the future of the Villas of Cave Creek. I simply stated that there was NO CHANGE in the resale value.

Your Starwood Paranoia is growing!

Do we know for sure that VCC owners lost the Starwood preference? For years after Starwood took over, SBP and SDO had preference to the old Embassy Resorts (now the infamous Point at Popui and another Hawaii resort that I can't remember).

I have no Starwood paranoia. But there are posters here who look for Starwood shills under their beds before retiring. ;) ... eom

That is a good question! Is there some reason we'd assume II is highly competent at updating their IT for something like that?
