The stone look that you see throughout the resort is part of the existing structures, and/or a copy of it. There is quite a bit of history involved with the property... at one point when Charlotte Amalie burned down Frenchman's Cove supported the area.
These pictures were actually passed on to me, and were taken to show the facilities. It is far from a ghost town... though the limited units does make it more your own... a lot of folks do spend a significant time at the resort... it is relaxing... and everyone was very sociable.
Yes, the beach is small at this time, but to be honest you have no reason to leave the pool area (unless you want to say hi to the iguanas)... the pool is basically the beach... you are right on the ocean... and the pool is even designed so you can sit in lounge chairs while in the pool. The hotels' beach is much larger, and does have more of a breeze flowing through... it may be a hike, but at this time it appears that you can get a shuttle to the hotel areas at any time just by asking.
As to the grills, all we saw was the temporary grill down by the pool area.
