As a Marriott owner I am pleasantly surprised when I receive a "free" upgrade (larger unit or better view) when checking into a Marriott resort I have traded into.

As a soon to be Hyatt owner, I was wondering what is the likelihood of receiving an upgrade (from Studio to a 1 bedroom or a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom) when checking in. Specifically I am thinking of a 4-night mid-week stay in a studio at Wild Oak Ranch in Sept or October. What is the likelihood of an upgrade at this resort during this period?

Tahoe Joe,

I have never gotten a free upgrade but I always stay in Tahoe where you can only get a 2 bedroom. Hyatt is much different from Marriott. Marriott give great upgrade at their hotels get them all the time but Im also a plat member

I would never count on getting a upgrade be happy you can trade into other Hyatt resort from your home resort that should be your upgrade Hyatt newbie.

Sorry if I sound rash but enjoy Hyatt and the Hyatt system dont try to abuse it. FREE FREE FREE it get old old old.:bawl:

Maybe Kal Mesa or Dr Marriott can weight in on this one.:whoopie:

Damn bro, cut a newbie some slack.

I NEVER expect an upgrade and usually don't ask for one. I just enjoy them when they happen. I understand the Hyatt point system, but if someone checks into a property with 50%-60% vacancy rate, then an upgrade doesn't cost the resort anything and creates some good will.

TJ,

I wants trying to get on you (Hyatt newbie) but do you feel it would be fair for a owner that owns 1300 point week booking studios and always tries to get 1 bedroom units?

Since you know and understand the Hyatt system you would know there are very very very few weeks if and with the vacancy rate of 50 or 60% it just doesn't happen and if it did you really would not want to go during that time you would be waisting your points. Tahoe is like 90%+ full all 52 weeks I forgot the exact number but it was discuss by the HOA board.

Again your good will should be that Hyatt lets you trade very easy between resort unlike many other Hotel systems, that should be your GOOD WILL!!!!

Im always one of the owners that welcomes new HYATT especially Tahoe owners but PLEASE try to play by the rules because we have a great system and a few bad apples can make it bad for all Hyatt owners.

Either way WELCOME to Hyatt I do home your Escrow closes real soon I know you have had some issues with your title/escrow company. I do hope after you close on your timeshare you EXPOSE the title company so other will not use them.

You have bought at a great time at Hyatt with Northstar,Siesta Key,NYC coming on line and Maui just approved you will be sitting pretty real soon with all this great resorts.:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Hyatt's system is based on points, they do not have exchange rules like say II where you can possibly trade a studio for a 1 bedroom or a 1 bedroom for a 2 bedroom. I have gotten many good upgreade trades thru II like that with my Sheraton Desert Oasis property, but that is a differenty type of trade than Hyatt is providing for you. Within Hyatts system they will allow you to trade like points for another like points reservation.

In many cases you won't even have be able to get a reservation at the resort without the right number of points so you would never even have a chance to get a "bump" in rooms because you would never be there in the first place. Example Tahoe is only 2 bedroom... so if you try to book it you will have to have the 2 bedroom number of points avail that you need or else no reservation.

In any case Welcome to Hyatt... you will really enjoy your experience!! Great vacations!! You just should be aware of what the system has the potential to deliver to you.

Here is your bump... buy a cheap 1400 point Beach House week for $7000 and stay in a 5 star property like Beaver Creek that costs $250K and up!! Now that is a bump worth getting!!

Happy Hunting!!
