We're going on a 16 day trip to Australia & New Zealand, leaving out of Atlanta. Does anyone know which hotels near the airport will let you leave your car there at no charge if you've spent the night? Barb

Barb,

Try this website-you might need to register but I'm sure you'll get your question answered: http://www.city-data.com/forum/atlanta/
Good Luck.

We left our car at the Renaissance Concourse near the Atlanta airport when we went to Europe for 10 days a few years ago - left it in the lot the day we departed and spent the night at the hotel the day we came home. That was a Good Thing, since the getting home involved a cancelled flight in Paris, which caused us to miss our London-Atlanta flight, which turned into Paris-London-Dulles-Atlanta, which our bags didn't make, which meant filing a lost-luggage report in Dulles in the 45 minutes we had to get out of customs and to the next gate, which was not helped by the fact I sprained my ankle bolting out of the BA lost-luggage office and then realized, when we finally got to Atlanta and it was 20 degrees, that my coat was in my suitcase, which was still in Paris.

The Renaissance was very nice, however, and there is a shuttle bus to and from the airport.

A few years back, we left our car at the La Quinta Inn (1-2 miles away, I think) for 2 weeks at no charge, after staying one night w/free breakfast and airport shuttle, under $100. We had an early flight out and we live 4 hours away. What a deal. It was a pretty new hotel then. Would be worth seeing if they still have that option.

If you haven't made a int'l trip via Atlanta lately, be aware that coming home can be a grueling experience. Of course, coming back from AUS/NZ you won't have the problem we had with bringing back yummy rum from the Caribbean, but you have to pick up your luggage, have it checked through Customs, then recheck it (and if you have acquired any "duty-free" liquids -- be sure to put them into your baggage that you're rechecking), then go through security screening again. Then you have to find your luggage again and then figure out where you're supposed to find whatever transportation you're using to get back to where your car is parked. We used a pay lot that I don't remember the name of (which was fine getting to the airport and fine once we hired a bellcap who knew how to find the shuttle to get back to it) -- but it took over two hours after we landed to get out of the airport -- when we were already exhausted from just the short flight from the Caribbean. There was airport construction going on last year that complicated things; but I've never enjoyed haivng to go through Atlanta.

Anyway, the prepay lot that I used thru Expedia was fine (just the airport was a pain) -- so Good Luck and have a wonderful trip!

I'm pretty sure the Renaissance now has a 'per day' fee that would make it pretty pricey. We use the Mariott Courtyard North, becuase we usually have to stay over the night before anyway. They are currently charging $10 extra for a week's parking, but it could be a bit more for a substantially longer stay. Still cheaper than parking in the airport lots.

I wouldn't be surprised - it was 2002 when we went through there.
