I supposedly received a call from an Interval employee about "facilitating" rental of Getaway weeks that all Interval Members receive annually. (I was told these are not Resort Accommodation Certificates, but Getaways that typically rent for $1600-$1800/week. For $399 per week (and apparently all II members get 52 "Getaway" weeks per year - remember these have nothing to do with Resort Accommodations) I can have the ability to "rent" getaway weeks. Currently, large coprorations have requested rentals in places like Las Vegas and other conference-type towns and are interested in renting Getaway weeks for $1600-$1880 for each week. If I pay $399 for each of the Getaway Weeks I supposedly have (maxing out at 52 weeks), I would make at least $1600 less the $399 fee. I was given a phone number to call back that is not an II number, but this person's own direct telephone #. All of this sounds like an offer too good to be true. Has anyone else heard of this? Thanks for your help. (I should add that one person called us and then switched us over to another person for all the details. Also, these people knew we owned at Desert Springs.)

It's not II that is doing this. Its somebody else trying to use the knowledge that you have an II membership, to make themselves money at your expense.

On the II Community (their forum), II has pinned a Fraud Advisory post to alert its Members of this "upfront fee" scam.

Summary:
1. SCAM
2. Upfront Fee required (as soon as they get the $, they move on to next victim).
3. It's not II (the scammers use a name that sounds like Interval, International, RCI, etc.
4. You do NOT have any Getaway weeks. A Getaways is a cash rental on II. You may purchase a week from them at the stated price.
5. No corporation is ever looking for timeshares for their employees / events. etc.
6. They called you. Do not accept calls from numbers that are not in the contact list.

Why wouldn't II rent the getaways directly to these corporate folks and make an extra $1,400? In other words why is II facilitating you making $1,400 but they only get $399? Why are THEY (II) working so hard to make YOU money, but they make no more than the getaway fee? Think about it. (Also it is against II's terms to rent getaway weeks....but I digress.)

If it were legit why wouldn't II just take the $399 out of the $1,800?

Is is just greed that makes someone ignore all the red flags and think this could be real?

And the key to this is that it is against terms. That is how the “best” scams work. Since you are also breaking the rules, will be more hesitant to call/complain since you don’t want to get in trouble too.

You're a TUG member yet unsure?!
