Found the tug app

I just looked under the three lines again and the tug app appeared again. Probably because I un-installed it.

interesting, ive honestly never seen that before...and a quick bit of research shows that this is a native feature of xenforo (the tug forum software) that lets you install a mobile version on your device for easier browsing. think of it like tapatalk, but all free and such and created specifically for xenforo itself.

there would be no danger in installing this and if you enjoy that format better, fantastic! so i guess in this sense TUG does indeed have an app! at least for the forums anyway!

I am curious for those who use tapatalk, which option they prefer!

Yes, I read your post. I'm confused as the three lines look like they are part of the tug page. When I push the three lines the tug menu appears. What you are saying is this is part of chrome and there is nothing wrong as it is a shortcut and not an app even though it shows up in the phone settings and folders as an app.

Maybe it should be called something other than tug app in the tug menu.

Ok then. It's nothing to worry about.

Well it is part of chrome but also part of zenforo, the software that TUG and thousands of BBSs run on. The website/software has to facilitate a PWA (progressive web app) through its software for Chrome to add it as a PWA.

But yes, Zenforo has added a link in the mobile menu on the forum webpage (in chrome or Safari) to get you to the Install the PWA that I explained above. It is just a link to get you there faster than using the browser menu. Again, it is not a native TUGBBS App. It is really just a version of the webpage that runs a PWA.

The fact that no one including Brian knows of it, explains exactly how useful it is. More details here:

im honestly not sure when that got rolled out, it certainly was not always a part of xenforo!

It did install fast. Way faster than an app at the play store. There is no difference when using chrome other than when the app is installed it shows up in the chrome settings and app folder. Another difference is when the tug app is installed the link to install the tug app is removed from the tug menu.

Basically, the app opens a new page on chrome. Being that a tug link shows up when I open chrome anyway the tug app is only marginally quicker but does look good along side of my other apps. It's the only palm tree and I like palm trees 🌴 🌴 .
