This is sort of a fun thread. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. :cheer:

So it was 25 years ago that the excellent movie Forrest Gump was released. I was having an argument with my spouse as to how many different ways in which "Bubba" said that shrimp could be prepared? Spouse says 25 ways.

I believe it was somewhere around 50 different ways; anyone interested in trying to list the differing varieties of shrimp preparation that Bubba told Forrest in the movie?

.

I don't know from Forrest Gump, but lean toward #13+ shrimp, skewered and slathered with butter, generously seasoned with Old Bay. Grilled over real alder wood charcoal.

Added to Alfredo sauce, served over fettuccine.
Optional: Also add bacon crumbles and peas.

Pineapple shrimp

My guess is between 23 - 25.
Boil & Fried shrimp should be in the top five (5).

Just find that part in the movie and write them down. You can pause while doing so.

Actually, it is easier than that. Just google it. I now know every shrimp name used in the movie.

Yes, Google is easier:

"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it."

Surprised Shrimp and Grits was not included in the movie.

Bubba: "Have you ever been on a shrimp boat?"

Forrest: "No, but I've been on a really big boat."

Our local Chinese restaurant has 7 Stars Around the Moon - 7 shrimp fried on bacon, smothered in Chinese vegetables and rice, scallops, white fish tempura, and topped with a lobster tail. (It's for 2)

I guess there was no popcorn shrimp in the early 60's.

So the correct answer is 22. My eyes are playing shrimp of the high seas on me tonight. There are just so many different ways to prepare the fruit of the sea. LOL:D

Whats a shrimp boat captains favorite drink ?

Hi-C

I heard this on a fishing trip. Most of the people on the boat didn't know what Hi-C is.

Are you counting fruit of the sea?

Did not count fruit of the sea. 23 is the correct answer.

I was in a Chinese Restaurant the other day and it looked like they had some Shrimp Chow Mein on their buffet table.

.

We all know there are more modern options. You can microwave it, sous vide it and sear it. There is shrimp sushi, popcorn shrimp, shrimp chow fun, shrimp lo mein, shrimp Mei fun, sweet and sour shrimp, shrimp dumplings, shrimp and broccoli, shrimp po boy, shrimp on pasta - angel hair / spaghetti / linguini, shrimp raviolli, shrimp tartare, shrimp poke bowl, shrimp ramen, shrimp fried rice, garlic shrimp, shrimp yakituri, shrimp scampi, shrimp skewers, shrimp kebabs, shrimp sashimi, shrimp and grits, shrimp stock, and shrimp buffet! And many others. So I vote 100 possible options!
