For those who have stayed at HGVC Ocean Enclave in Myrtle Beach

We haven't been to any of the HGVC resorts in Myrtle Beach. I'm thinking about taking my father who will be 90 years old.

Ocean Enclave appears to be the best out of the three options on Myrtle Beach (best resort and better location). I saw the nearby pier and thought he might enjoy some pier fishing but how bad is the late evening music from the building next door?

I've seen lots of comments on TripAdvisor about the loud music playing until 2am from the open-air rooftop patio at the Tin Roof restaurant & bar next door but I don't recall anyone mentioning it on TUG. :shrug:

That is our favorite of the three. It is the newest and directly on the boardwalk so easier walking to the restaurants, pier, etc. Yes, the bar/restaurant is next door and maybe folks with balconies closer to it had issues but we have never really heard much. The last time that we were there, we stayed at a oceanfront room and didn't hear anything. We were on the balcony a lot also but it is closer to the ocean so not in direct earshot. Here is a picture from our balcony. You can see how close to the pier and you can see the boardwalk. That is where it ends and connects directly to the pool area. Get a cabana for a day, it is nice.

It is really a matter of personal taste. We stayed at Ocean's 22 last summer. We wanted Ocean's Enclave because it was newer and had better reviews but it was not available for the size room we wanted at the time we booked. We were all glad we did not get Ocean's Enclave. Ocean's 22 was in a quiet section of the main beach access street in MB. We walked down to Ocean's Enclave and looked around (they are about six blocks apart). It is in the busiest section of the MB main area with lots of loud music, people and hustle and bustle around it. With my 80 year old Mom, the quieter area both around and in front of Ocean's 22 was preferable. Ocean's 22 is still very accessible to all the things in MB, just not right in the middle of the most popular ones. So you have to decide between quieter and closer to the main action when you choose between them. Having seen both, I would not stay at Ocean's Enclave but I know many people who would probably prefer being close to the "action" of MB. Both are beautiful resorts with great beach access and amenities. Cannot go wrong in either location.
 
If you are staying at 22, River City Cafe and Soho bar and grill were both pretty goon and they are walking distance. Little Pigs Bar-B-Q was good as well.

For an expensive place, Hook and Barrel was awesome. Great food and service (at least in 2019). I highly recommend Hook and Barrel.
 
One of the things I like about OE is that you have direct access to the north end of the boardwalk. We‘ve stayed there twice in the April/May timeframe and during those times the weekends definitely seemed noisier with traffic and the bar. That being said, I’m a light travel sleeper and wouldn’t hesitate to go back. It’s a lot easier access getting into the build as compared to 22 and Anderson. A 2 or 3 OF BR on the north side of the building might be less noisy from the rooftop bar, but you could hear some loud car/car stereo music there too. Higher floors are better. If you’re concerned about noise, would HHI be a better option with your Dad, if you can find an opening?

I started thinking about the timing. We'll probably visit myrtle beach in the off season to avoid the summer heat, summer crowds, and the summer evening entertainment. So, I think we'll be ok. I'll also try to book an oceanfront unit as well.

Dad is an extrovert and loves being in the middle of the action ;). Having options a few steps away also gives him a little independence to go out on his own. But I may look into renting a scooter to help him get around. He'll definitely enjoy the ocean views from the room and the southern hospitality & cuisine.

I just saw an article on the top 10 worst beaches in the US. MB was about 5. Smyrna in FL was #1.

That is the one. I think danger was one variable. We go there every fall with no issues though.

And we have gone to New Smyrna from Orlando. I guess there are a lot of shark sightings and bites there though.
 
We are still at Enclave. Looks like they have not scheduled any live music groups for this month yet. I walked up there to see the events posted for June.

What room are you planning? The lowest point 1br is facing north which might dampen the sound of any.

Looking at that schedule they probably had live music on July 1st, but we hardly heard any noice from our 2BR balcony which is the farthest from that property.

Also you can do fishing from the pier next to enclave. Having the boardwalk will help your dad to move around.

I wonder how many of the Surf Zone Fatalities occurred during storms. It may be that Surf Zone Fatalities are easily avoided just by being prudent during rough water.

I think the biggest problem with the ocean at Myrtle Beach is that the water is dirty, brown instead of blue or green.

I noticed that the master bedroom of the two bedroom units are oceanside based on the floor layouts on booking.com, It sounds like you're hardly hearing any noise in the master bedroom of the 2BR (room numbers xx07) which is very good news. I'll probably book a two or three bedroom. I'll definitely plan to stay away from the 3BP (room number xx12) unit type since they are the closest rooms to the evening entertainment.

There are four units per floor that are Premier, meaning Oceanfront. 05 A & B and 06 A & B. The "A" is a two bedroom and the "B" is a one bedroom. You previously mentioned during your last visit you stayed in an oceanfront room and didn't hear anything. Which oceanfront room did you stay in and during which month?

That is pretty much the entire Atlantic Ocean though....Florida isn't much better...all the way around. I learned to SCUBA dive in the Philippines and one of my dive masters was from the Keys. She commented that I was already spoiled and didn't even know it yet....she was right. 100+ ft viz compared to maybe 25 around FL.
