Footflush - does anyone own one?

S

Steamboat Bill

Here is an interesting idea that is probably making millions of dollars that we all will probably say....gee, I could have thought of that, but didn't.

* disclaimer - I have no vested interest in this product even though I am a semi-retired podiatrist.

Foot Flush® International was founded by Eric Herbst in 2003 with the goal of making hands free technology affordable helping to reduce the spread of germs.

To provide low cost, high quality "hands-free" bathroom technology. The Foot Flush is great for seniors, people with back issues, limited mobility or special needs. It helps with potty training, reduces the spread of germs in your home and gets your bigger kids to flush. When the technology becomes widely accepted it may help to reduce the global spread of germs, while generating a substantial return for our investors.

FFI is founded on the assumption that health conscious people wish to avoid germs associated with traditional bathroom handles. FFI designs, manufactures, and markets cost efficient foot pedals to operate bathroom fixtures. Our systems offer an attractive, economic, and environmentally friendly alternative to current systems.

The idea for the Foot Flush® came to Eric, a talented musician, when his band would perform in bars and clubs. Eric, like many of us, did not want to touch the toilets so he would flush them with his foot.

One day it came to Eric that if he attached a pedal to a toilet he would be able to flush with his foot without having to touch the handle or do acrobatics! He "borrowed" his drummer’s bass pedal, got some cord and the first Foot Flush® by FFI was born!

Since then Eric has perfected the Foot Flush™ and turned it into the revolutionary bathroom product that it is today! Foot Flush® is a registered trademark of Foot Flush International. U.S. Patent No. 7,003,815 with International patents pending.

Why put in a foot flush when an infrared sensor would do just as well with no moving mechanical parts to break

I think some of the claims are erroneous. How is it great for seniors? I am a senior and see no advantage. My niece is in a wheelchair, therefore has limited mobility and there is no way she could use a foot flush. Claims that it helps potty training are unfounded. Is a youg child more apt to flush with a foot pedal than a hand pedal? Who knows? What trials have been done to make that claim? How does the manufacturer know that it gets bigger kids to flush? Sounds like timehare sales hype to me.

Foot pedals for sinks are used in some medical settings and are very helpful for infection control -- probably more helpful that a foot pedal for a toilet, since one still would want to wash one's hand after flushing the toilet. With a foot pedal for the sink, you can wash your hands without re-contaminating them when you turn off the water.

That said, this isn't a bad idea. Infrared sensors have a bad habit of going off when you don't want them too, and this would avoid that problem.

Rubber Gloves & Gas Masks Are Unnecessary. Just Use Paper Towel.

It's lots less trouble & cheaper to avoid direct contact with flush handles, etc., just by using a piece of paper towel to shield the hand. Ditto for avoiding direct contact with the door handle on the way out via inward-swinging restroom doors.

I know the devices well....and I think this it is a far better idea than a footflush for a toilet.

Guess what...someone has invented it http://www.footfaucet.net/

Shux...this is the best idea of all....almost free, easy to understand, readily available, no moving parts, and it is a product that can be make from recycled materials. Ingenious.

I like the European "superloos". The whole cubicle unit is totally self-contained and is automatically blasted with disinfectant after each user leaves it. Brilliant imho. Never seen one in North America though.
