Yesterday at a Florida restaurant, we were that told they were out of some beers becuz people from bars were coming in. I pointed out that they could send someone across the street to the liquor store.

Dumb server and stupid owner because if there was a liquor store across street and if they are grocery stories in the city, that are open. Someone, could make a run to either establishment and purchase the out of stock beer item. This Florida restaurant would still make a profit selling the beer by the can, bottle or by glass. IMHO.

The three tier system may not allow that. I know in DE it would not be legal.

If they think closing bars is going to stop exponential growth through community spread of COVID, while not strictly requiring that people wear face masks and "hoping" everyone will just do the "right thing," well, it seems to me they are being pretty stupid.

It’s not the opening of the bars that’s to blame. It’s people wanting to believe they can do whatever they want without consequences.

Young People seem to believe they’re especially immune from both illness and the consequences of their actions. The big unintended consequence is likely to be the permanent loss of jobs and income, all because a large enough group of people can’t modify their behavior long enough to get past all of this.

Granted no one is certain how long enough will be, but opening and then re-closing and starting over sure as heck won’t make this go by any quicker.

It's difficult to realize that my survival through this depends on the density of the population, and the DENSITY of the population! WEAR THE DAMN MASK!

In Southwest Florida now. I can confirm no one was wearing masks except some retail workers and waiters until late last week when they announced bars closing. Now, it's a mixed bag. We were at an outdoor bar eating in dining area a week ago, and locals were not social distancing at bar. Tourists were in the dining area.

I'm just curious, because I'm guilty of blaming the tourist here, how do you tell the locals from the tourists?

It's pretty easy to tell the locals in Florida when you are in a resort area. People dressed up with kids vs. people at the bar wearing tank tops who all seem to know each other. We were at a local hangout, which made it easier to spot the difference (tourists were the minority). I will say tourists were behaving badly at the upscale resort restaurants, which we are avoiding. So, not trying to stereotype, just saying the locals seemed unconcerned at the local dives, as did the tourists at the tourists hotspots, with folks like us eating outdoors away from both being in the minority.

In our area (Santa Fe) I know there are New Mexicans who aren't wearing masks and social distancing. But we tend to blame the tourists coming in, especially those from Texas.

My broader point was up until the spike in cases in the news late last week, the only people wearing masks here were waiters and some retail workers. I'm seeing a lot more this week - now almost all retail workers, and about 50/50 with other folks.

Today I did something out of my character. I asked this couple, who wear not wearing masks in public this question?

Which do you prefer wearing, a mask in public or wearing a respirator mask in a hospital?

Their final answer, after stop & thinking was a mask. They said thank you and walk away.

I don't go out much, but every time I have I have pretty much seen good compliance, until the tourists started coming into town.

Don't bars have to adhere to the 6 foot distancing recommendation?

It’s not just young people. There are TUG members who won’t wear masks, as well.

Don't bars have to adhere to the 6 foot distancing recommendation?

10 feet (at a minimum) is likely the new 6 feet for inside, but even so, without face coverings, for more than 10 minutes, it likely doesn't matter much in small enclosed spaces, or where there's a lot of time spent singing/yelling. Which is why we'll not eat at any indoor restaurants until vaccine. Too old to hang out at a bar.
Masks+ 6 feet likely provides high level of protection. Masks alone appear far superior to distancing. Scroll below link for Covid projections with mask usage. Masks are the game changer.

yes, even 10 feet of social distancing indoors in bars and nightclubs may not work

Just my two cents and thoughts. Since most, or many, bars and nightclubs are usually very noisy, don't most people have to almost shout to be heard? And wouldn't shouting cause droplets to spread farther? Just going along with the thought that 6 feet might not be enough.
