Floating Weeks at Surf Watch

Could I book the consecutive weeks and then cancel the week I don't want later?
I have done so a number of times, cancelling one of the weeks and then electing it into Abound Points. I always do so within the 12 month reservation window as I have read of others having issues if they cancel between 12 and 13 months.

Though as @Dean wrote, the ability to cancel one week without it affecting the other reservation may change in the future.

You just have to keep the 13 month string intact until you get down to 1 resort (week owned) then you have to meet the 12 month window requirements. Let's assume I had a 2 BR Annual Grand Chateau week and a Grande Ocean week both platinum. Then I lock off Grand Chateau and book 3 consecutive weeks, weeks 25-27 (19 June, 26 June & 3 July 2027) with 27 being MGO and do so minute one 13 months out from the FRIDAY check in day but I actually chose Saturday check in. So I all at 9 AM on 18 May to book and do so with the studio then 1 BR at GC then ending with MGO. On 25 May I can then call (or email/chat) and cancel or change the week 25 studio at GC because the 13 month requirements are still met. However, I could not cancel one of the other weeks until a full month later when the 12 month window opens because the requirement to book at 13 months out would not have been met. While they might not catch it if you did so, it is likely you'd lose the reservation if you cancel before the 12 month window opens if that means the 13 month requirements are not still in place.

The other issue is that often the reps are not well informed about this issue so they might not be willing to make the change. If this happens either call back or ask them to check with a supervisor. Also note that in the above example if we'd reserved MGO week 25 then GC week 26 & 27, we could not have canceled MGO or GC until we got to 12 months out for week 26 because doing so would only leave one owned week in the reservation string.

@Dean @ljmiii or anybody else that want to chime in:

So my best bet would be to purchase a week at Surfwatch and a lockoff 2 bedroom at Grand Chateau. I would make the reservation I can with SW and back that up with at least one of the GC parts. I then keep both (or all three if I booked both of the GC pieces) untill 12 months before and I cancel the GC reservations, keep the SW and deposit the GC's into II. If all of the 13 month weeks are booked, we would than try again at 12 months and hopefully we could grab one of those. We do have some flexibility in our weeks, but some are better for us than others. This method gives me two chances (13 and 12 months) to book SW and give some deposits into II with the Grand Chateau.

Is there a way to do all of this online or is this a call/email/text to CRS only?

Thanks again for the help!

You don't necessarily need to cancel the Grand Chateau reservations. Just deposit them as is into II.

You have to call to do 13 month reservations or anything before 12 months for that reservation. As noted, you wouldn't have to cancel and could just deposit. Those weeks (25 & 26) in this example would be good deposits for II. If you cancel you'll get a charge for each one. As for what's best, it really depends. If you prefer SW then that's a good choice. GC is certainly a good resort to own for trading and this purpose. Another consideration for GC is if you can find a 3 BR that's not too much more, you'll come out ahead with better trade power and lower upgrade fees in II but you'll have a higher yearly maintenance fee. If you do have some flexibility and don't really need the exchanging option, I'd just buy the one week then see how it goes. Then you can regroup later if needed. That's especially true off you don't get an OF at GO or Barony or an Ocean Vista at SW.

Sounds like a great plan...though as others mentioned you don't cancel the GC lockoff weeks you just deposit them into II.

As I mentioned upthread, I would strongly recommend buying a Ocean Vista (aka Ocean front) week...staying across the 'street' in Ocean Dunes at Surfwatch is much nicer.
