Oven cleaned dose not work. Any ideas. Thanks in advance. Jim

Just got a flat top stove for a rental unit with a flat top. It is in excellent condition except for a few burned on stains on the top. I have tried almost everything including oven cleaner to remove them but so far the stain is winning. Any ideas TUGGERS? Thanks in advance, Jim jail

Have you tried using a razor blade? I have a GE Profile, and that is what is recommended for burned-on spills. This is assuming the cooktop is glass.

Try hydrogen peroxide.

I did a real number on my favorite farberware 8 QT pot a few months ago - left it on the stove while doing something outside. I thought it was a goner. I looked online and found that good old peroxide worked wonderfully. I poured enough in to cover all the burned stuff and let it sit overnight and just needed to wash it out the next morning with no real scrubbing. I did use a scrubber sponge on one spot, but it came off easily. You could put some old rags on top of the stain and then pour the peroxide over it to saturate and cover with plastic to keep it moist.

The bottle I had was quite old, but worked fine. I bought a new bottle for less than $1 to keep on hand now.:)

If it's glass or ceramic, the only cleaner you are supposed to use is ceramic cooktop cleaner. If you use anything else, you can permanently ruin the surface. You can buy this cleaner at Walmart, usually in the aisle where dish detergent, etc., is sold.

But, for dried on stain, as others on this board have stated, it is recommended you use a razor blade and be VERY careful not to scratch the surface of the cooktop.

In fact, a razor blade was supplied with my brand new flat top cookstove, along with some ceramic cleaner.

We always just use baking soda and a sponge, but some of the burned on stains do require a lot of scrubbing.

Ours came with a razor-blade scrape, though we haven't used it yet.

I use my razor blade all the time; it works great. I just use it very carefully. lol. Unfortunately my family spills things on the stove frequently. I try to clean it up while it is still wet, but that is difficult because of the surface being hot.
