We own a fixed week 41 at Marriott Monarch in Hilton Head and love it. We have tried finding a week 40 to buy without success. We have found a Floating Sport Season which would include the time period we own. We're not familiar with floating weeks and don't know if it would be difficult to get week 40. Can anyone advise me whether Floating weeks are ok or should we wait for a fixed week?

Fixed weeks are great and very convenient, but unfortunately you don't know when a week 40 will pop up for sale. If you are picky on price it is even more unlikely. Go with the floating unless someone has information on the total fixed for week 40 that would make a floater tough or impossible. My guess is that it is based on specific unit numbers and the split is known but I'm not sure.

I say be patient and wait for a Fixed Week. I found that knowing with certainty where and when I would be staying comforting. Another benefit is that it simplified making travel arrangements.

Given that the II travel demand index for week 40 is right about the middle of the range, I would think you should be able to reserve week 40 with a float fairly reliably as long as you book in advance. Obviously, if you know you want week 40 every year, you should be able to call up as soon as the reservation window opens, and given that it is not a high season week, I would think that you should be able to get that week very reliably with a float.

You may wait and wait and never find that exact fixed week for sale. If you were looking for July 4 week, I might think holding out for fixed might be wise, but I can't imagine that booking week 40 with a Sport float at Monarch would be that difficult, so why wait?

Go to the monarch owners website and monitor the for sale tab. You can also post on the looking to buy. I own week 29 ocean front and was looking for week 28 or 30 ocean front. I became impatient and purchased week 32. The unit has a nice ocean view but not ocean front. 6 months after purchase a week 28 came up.

The website is monarchowners.com

I like the idea of a fixed week for your situation ....but. Do you know the % of float to fixed weeks? I ask because it seems that with a float season week, a disciplined routine of booking the reservation at the window opening shouldn't be too difficult. It also looks like week 42 is in the sport floating season. So depending on your flexibility you'll have two shots at a concurrent week. Say one year you wait too long or for what ever reason can't reserve the exact week you want. Although paying an II trading fee may not be ideal it would be an easy trade back in (Marriott and Monarch owner preference)

I looked at the monarch owners website and of the 122 units, 107 are fixed weeks and 15 are floating. All of the floating are in the Comellia Building. You can do the math....week 40 and 42 surrounds 41 with 15 units floating, you have 30 units to possibly get.

Just as an FYI, if you go to the monarchowners.com website under sales, you will find a fixed week 42 for sale. If you want week 40 post on looking to buy.

Good luck.

While it may or may not corrolate, we own a floating week in Aruba (Platinum-Garden) and Myrtle Beach (Gold Ocean Front) and have always been able to secure the specific in-season week we've wanted via the online reservation system. Just be sure to know the release date and log on before 9:00am Eastern.

LOL, we have never used our fixed week (#21) at Harbour Point. We've always traded it for something "better" (or at least based on the re-sale/rental market, more expensive).
