Hi all:
We're off to Nuevo Vallarta on Jan 6th for three weeks and was wondering if anyone can comment on their fishing experience in the area? http://www.puertovallartafishing.net/ offers charters at various prices for up to 6 people, as well as a boat share 8 hour trip for $150.
If any Tuggers are interested in sharing a charter during this period, please send me an e-mail. It's -15c in Eastern Ontario today - I can hardly wait!

Im in if your trying to make 3 - 4 on a charter to the Banks. I fish Cabo and havent fished PV waters yet.

Steve, please post what you find!

We arrive on the 24th but it sounds like you leave the 27th so I'm not sure we can hook up. We're staying at Club Regina. My good friend and I are up for a trip but I think the wives plan on staying behind.

PM me if you think you find something special for the 26th or after - they arrive late the 24th.

Thanks
akeksir

We used masterbaiters in the marina as were were a club regina and they were terrible. Paid for full day and did not get it as the guide was not there and they called someone else in at the last moment- boat was not ready- we lost over an two hours and then they charged us more than they said. A disaster...

Thanks for the (lack of) recommendation Blondie. I'll remember it.

Hi folks
Staying at VDP Flamingos. Just entering our 2nd week of three. Still working on putting together a group boat, but not really that hard. I´ll let you kn ow if it works out and post a short review.

Any fishing going on ? Who wants to go ? I do. A few trips between the 25 - 31 or maybe 23 - 2-8 out of punta mita. I have a car. My wife wont go fishing. We will be at UVC Flamigos then Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta. Punta Mita is 15 miles closer to the big fish and close to NV.

Thanks
Bill

This is the best way to go. The best fishing is about 25-30 miles from the docks. If you start trolling close in you can waste 4 hours just getting out there. Punta Mita is almost to the grounds so you save a lot of time. If you do go out from PV insist that you do not troll out, but go out at cruising speed.

We will at Paradise the first week of Feb and our son is interested in fishing. I hope that you will post your fishing stories. We can certainly drive up to Punta Mita but am wondering about the parking and is it is safe to park a rental car. Thanks and byw the temp here is -10, not windchill but temp

Anyone fishing yet ?

OK .. We got into the dorado. Very tasty. The fish were right off Punta de Mita about 3 -4 miles slightly north of the point. There is some floatsome here attracting baitfish and that attracts dorado and that attracts marlin. We met a guy that caught a 745 marlin this week and although we saw marlin all we caught was dorado.

In Punta de Mita there are pangas for hire. The cost is around $200.00 for all day and you can take up to 4 fishers. Since no one is checking for fishing licenses it seems no one has one. A guy called Waldo can pick you up in Nuevo Vallarta at Mega and take you fishing. He can be found at the restaurants in Punta de Mita. Just say "Where`s Waldo". Parking is very safe here.

In Sayulita there are pangas for hire. The cost is around $200.00. You will see the pangas on the south end of the beach. Pepe is the younger guy hanging out by this area. Also there is Paul, who owns 2 pangas and a restaurant called Capt. Paulblo on the beach. You can buy a seat on his pangas for $145.00.

Mikes Charters is in Nuevo Vallarta. These are cruisers. You can buy the boat for $1200.00. You can also visit the travel agent at the Grand Mayan or posibly any resort to buy a seat on the cruiser.

When cruiser shareing, you will be taking turns with at least 5 other fishers. You may get some fish. You will be on a long , loud boat ride with a bunch of newbies most likely. The proper etiquette is to draw names out of a hat for fish strikes. Shoud the fish spit the hook, that still counts as the strike and the next fisher is up. A strike is not the same as a catch. Should a marlin be hooked , everyone gets to play it for 5 minutes or longer. Newbies dont understand this some times and can ruin a trip by trying to be the King Fisher.

Good Luck
Bill

OK. I gotta' jump in here..

There are some real schmucks booking out of PV marina. As some of the folks have already noted, no reason to troll from PV. Nada. Punta de Mita and out is the ticket. Also, water quality isn't great around PV proper anyway. Went to dinner several times in the marina district while staying at the Westin and some clod roper actually got verbally offensive because I'd told him "No thanks" on more than one occasion throughout the week. Nice way to generate business, guy.

Went fishing 10days ago with Sebastian in Punta Mita. Hooked 4 Mahi and reeled in 2 but 15lbs + size. Too much for us to eat so we gave some away. Sebastian told us of a restaurant on the beach in Punta Mita that prepared our fish for us and it was wonderfully prepared.

We went out the 27th and caught about a dozen mackerel and 1 dorado which we had for a late lunch after we got back. Way too much for the 4 of us. Had 2 meals and a 3rd left frozen in the freezer. Hope the maids could enjoy it.
