First time renting out our timeshare. Is Airbnb a good option?

We have had our timeshare listed on RedWeek with no luck thus far. For week 1 in Mexico. Is Airbnb a decent option for renting a fixed week timeshare? Or VRBO? What resource am I missing here?

When you rent on site like Redweek, you are generally advertising to people familiar with timeshares. When you rent out on sites like Airbnb, you are expanding your world to those not familiar with timeshares.

Airbnb will charge you 3% of what you rented for and will pay you after they check in. They will charge the renter approx 27% for their fee and taxes which they will collect and submit if required.

Airbnb also has insurance for the host if the renter causes damage. The renter can get travel insurance thru Airbnb,

One problem. Because many renters turned single family homes into residential neighborhoods as party houses, many towns have laws requiring you register. Those laws are meant for homes and apartments and it is hard for a timeshare owner to register. Thus Airbnb will not allow you to list. Some local governments allow timeshares to claim an exemption but not all.

You can also list it on go-koala.com for $0 listing fee. I like their business model because so many listings never get rented, and no guarantees with RW. RW is raking it in.

Also, you could list it on TUG Marketplace.

And Facebook Marketplace can work to rent out timeshare.
