Snagged theee nights in June using HGVC points and happy to give it a try. We have no agenda and have done the major sights - don't know DC well.

Tips, suggestions, ideas for a few childless weeknights? We've penciled in a long run toward the mall and environs, maybe a SCOTUS and Library of Congress visit.

You could always contact your Member of Congress or Senators if you want a staff led tour, ehich is a little different than the norm if yo haven't done this before. We did this and toured the U.S. Capital. We did the Library of Congrass on our own.

Our congressman arranged for his aide to meet us in his offices, and she took us through the tunnels to the Capitol and gave us a great tour. He also arranged White House tickets and tickets to the Bureau of Printing and Engraving (no free samples).
We liked the Museum of American History; we are old enough to remember most of the artifacts there (Fonzie’s jacket, Dorothy’s ruby slippers, Archie Bunker’s chair). We took a tour of the monuments which was excellent.
It’s nice that almost all of the national museums have free admission, but for some you have to make reservations in advance. Air and Space has limited availability.

Our last visit we stayed at the District Club and enjoyed it very much.

If you're there over a Friday evening, the National Gallery runs a free jazz concert series at the Sculpture Garden. They give out tickets by lottery a week or so in advance but if you just show up before the gates open you can register and get tickets whether you were picked in the lottery for free tickets or not - they have people walking around with a qr code for the registration. When we are in town we tend to go line up around 5:00 or so in order to be able to stake out seats under the trees. It's very convenient to the Waldorf Astoria DC; a bit less convenient to The District but not that bad a walk.

Nearby The District we like Residents Cafe & Bar. They have a decent Happy Hour menu, including food, 5-7 PM Tuesday - Friday (they're closed Mondays). If you make a reservation through the Door Dash app, there's a $12 credit in Door Dash through a promotion that's been running recently - I think it works for any of the Seven Rooms reservation restaurants. There was also a $15 Lyft credit for a ride to/from there, but it's only a few blocks and wasn't worth my time waiting for a Lyft to use it. Might be worth it if you go to the Jazz in the Garden, then to Residents, though.... Residents also takes payment via inKind.

These posts are making me want to go visit Washington DC! I think I’m gonna try to go there next year for the cherry blossoms.
