This is officially my first year booking a HGVC getaway. It has been a very interesting experience, compared to renting a Hotel Room. With a Hotel Room, I never had an issue reserving a room. Even in the most demanding months.
First, planning out as far as possible is a must. This is especially true if you want to reserve a suite (2 for my purpose) during holiday seasons. However, checking almost daily for 4 months (May - Aug) I was able to book 2 suites for the same time at the same resort (Grand Pacific Mar Brisa) for Dec (5nights/6days) and for the dates I wanted. Don't know if this was luck or not. But I will take it. I almost broke down and went HHonors points or RCI.
Second, I love the HGVC Point System. After getting the 2 suites, I still had enough points to stay in a one bedroom at the HHV-Lagoon Tower midweek, which includes Thanksgiving Day (Tue-Fri). I was amazed that the 1 bdrm was still available this close to NOV. This is a perfect end to a long Deployment. BTW: Because of TUG BBS (found it just in time) and the great people who take the time to answer questions, I was able to buy a whole lot of HGVC points for half the cost of what I was going to pay the developer for a smaller points package. Thanks Tug!
Lastly, I like the online reservation. Without the online reservation, it would have been very hard for me to continue calling everyday to see if there were any openings at the resort. I hope one day, all the resorts will be on the online reservation system.
