A fire broke out yesterday about 2 pm in the kitchen of Bonito Sunset in Cabo. It also got into the ventalation system. Guests were evaculated, of course, and the news report did not mention anyone being injured.

At any rate, if you have upcoming reservations, it might be wise to check on the ventalation system--no air conditioning would be a bummer. The kitchen, you could live without, but no air conditioning would be deal breaker for me.

Since there are so many separate buildings on the property, it would seem that not all the units would be affected. Which restaurant kitchen was involved in the fire? There are a couple of restaurants in the main building that houses the lobby, and if the whole building is affected by smoke that would present quite a problem, I would imagine. Where did you read the report of the fire? I couldn't find anything out by Googling it.

Google translation of the article:

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. - Two hours of panic lived tourists who were staying at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset, located in the Mexican Pacific, after a fire, registered in the kitchen area, caused mobilization emergency personnel, firefighters and emergency rescue to meet the contingency.

According to information revealed by the Fire Department of the town, the wake-up call occurred around two in the afternoon, giving immediate notice to the other instances of emergency, who moved to the vicinity of the hotel Pueblo Bonito Sunset.

It should be noted that access to the said hotel is complicated, since it is located in the Mexican Pacific, and is only accessed by Lerry Vía Avenue, then a private road giving access to the hotel group that distinctive , with various developments which are embedded in that area.

Finally, referring to the hotel, firefighters and found that Hotel Security Management had activated rescue squads and was evacuating tourists, while others sought to control the tongues of fire coming out of the area of the hotel's kitchen, which was where the incident began, and continued until the area which houses the administrative offices, as well as all the vent area, which is said was damaged, and that the smoke traveled through the ducts ventilation.

They were about two hours of panic which lived more than a thousand tourists staying in the room, however, the situation transcended to higher, and after that time and after firefighters controlled the fire, immediately everything returned to normal .

In the action of suffocation involving three extinguishing equipment and fire department ambulance, and others who came heeding the call, as well as a lot of hotel employees.

I wonder if it was a restaurant in the main lobby building like some are suggesting. On the PB Sunset Beach facebook page they haven't said. No news about it on twitter so I sent them a tweet ............

I was told the fire was in the Bistro restaurant in the main building and this is the only area closed for now.

Makes you wonder if there are any regulations in Mexico regarding the cleaning of restaurant exhaust hoods. Regulations in the US vary from city to city but eventually restaurant vent hoods are inspected until they are passed by the local fire inspector. Some cities require more frequent inspections than others (not depending on type of kitchen - it depends on the municipality). Kitchen grease in the duct work can be quite hazardous.
