After we did our grocery shopping we decided to take a little drive and hit the Rainbow Drive-in.

After we go back from Kauai last week my wife went to the doctor to check on her x-ray of her back from when she fell in our apartment. Unfortunately, she found out that she has a fractured vertebrae. So she hasn’t been doing muck walking and she needs to go for an MRI this week. Hopefully she is on her way to recover.

Luckily, we got a parking spot and she didn’t have to walk far. We ended out getting it to go since we had groceries in the car.

We liked the variety here but be both give the edge to Zippy’s. But we still liked the food and it may have been slightly cheaper than Zippy’s.

I had the Chicken cutlet plate and my wife had the Fried Saimin and BBQ Beef plate.

I like the Rainbow. Its been a long while. I'm not sure I can eat those mixed plates or drink the slush anymore.

It was good, we just preferred Zippy’s. We still love the plate dinners even if we shouldn’t. :D

We liked it when we were there in January 2019. We walked from the Modern Honolulu. I am thinking your Wife proably had a compression fracture.

You are correct, a compression fracture In her L1.

It is a place for the locals that grew up here. My brother-in-law that is 69 years old eats here all the time. His deal is looking to see old friends that he went to high school with. He also likes two scoops of rice with everything he eats. That is not for me. There are many more better places to eat. But this place is cheap because half your plate consist of rice and that is cheap.

Yep, two scoops of rice and a scoop of Mac salad. I like plate dinners at times and they have good variety. It still gets busy with a good mix of locals and tourists.

Good ol’ Rainbow Drive In. Such a landmark. Nice seeing it’s still as busy as ever. :)

Sorry to hear of your wife’s back issue. Hoping they can help get her healed and healthy again.

Dave

Rainbows drive in now has 3 locations. The original in Kaimuki. They other 2 are franchisees locations. Located at Pearlridge shopping center downtown and on North school street in Kalihi.

slip if you like plate lunches and garlic chicken, visit Sugois in Kalihi. Great garlic chicken and they make a pretty good hamburger steak. If you want an even cheaper plate lunch that tastes like Rainbows, visit Richies drive in in Kalihi. Terri beef, boneless chicken with gravy and fries are just like Rainbows but at a 30% discount.

Kalihi is not a good neighborhood. Don’t go there after dark and the later it gets, the worse it gets.

Mahalo Frank. I’ll try those on my way home from work sometime. Go right by there.

We usually don’t go anywhere at night. I’m done when I get home from work. :D

It's not that as bad in certain areas. I grew up there and still visit friends weekly. Now I do not advise tourists to go there. But where Rainbows drive in is in Kalihi it is fine. Rainbows is on the main street and lots of traffic.
