we are a new player in the game. went into a time share presentation intending to buy nothing . ended up buying a time share in hawaii. we are now vip members with 315 k with 315 bonus points. not sure what we have done. but the question i have is a friend of mine has a rci time share with about 20k points. are ff points equivilent to rci points when i convert my ff points to rci . We have not received our access to ff yet so we are confused. He thinks that we will receive a reduced amount of rci points when converted.

How long have you been in the game? Are you beyond cancellation?

yes we just purchaced before xmas. We had talked lots about this prior to commiting. age is starting to creep up and we plan to travel.

Well, not exactly. You just might have gotten it a bit cheaper... Nevertheless, there is a lot of info on here that will get you started in answering all your questions. I would suggest you take a look at all this information and then afterwards, start shooting out the questions. :)

Happy Vacationing!

Congratulations!

Don't let others spoil your fun. You will see lots of debates about buying resale vs. retail. Many of us have a combination of both.

To answer your original question, RCI point values are different from fairfield. As a VIP through retail puchase I assume you will also have PlusPartners which allows you to use Ffld points to book into RCI Points resorts via their "RCI Nightly Stays" program. Having just used this to book three getaways to the Manhattan Club (two weekends and one midweek stay), I can tell you this is a great bonus.

You will also want to visit

It takes a few days to get added to the group, but they have lots of info.

thanks for the info. we are looking forward to getting our package and planning some travel. I will look into yahoo and hopefully will chat with you again.

Wyndham (FF) is a great system

Ignore the price as that is already a done deal. Now you need to learn how to maximize your use. The Wyndham (Fairfield) system is a great one but it takes some time to learn. Start reading, asking questions and most of all enjoy it as the system has great locations and great resorts.

FF to RCI or ?

Welcome to TUG, Fairfield (FF) and RCI. Just joined Tug this year and it is quite helpful.

From your note, it appears your FF resort is associated with RCI which is a company that allows you to trade beyond the FF realm. You should confirm that your resort trades via RCI and not II ( another exchange company ).

FF points and RCI points are not 1 for 1. As you get the FF and RCI documents you will get descriptions on the trading process and value transformation. Generally speakeing a FF 2 Bedroom red week might be 150K points and a RCI 2 Bedroom red week might be 50K points. However, that does not mean that you can not make transfers and trades that give you a good value. You can even increase your yeild if you have more flexibility and curiosity.

The important thing to focus on is that you now have access to some wonderful FF resort if you wish to explore the FF properties and you may also have access to many many wonderful RCI properties. Be patient, it just takes a little diligence to become knowledgeable and proficient.

You should be able to enjoy a bunch of vacations every year. I hope you have lots of free time.

Welcome to WVO ownership and to TUG

Don't feel too bad about buying from the developer. Many of us did the same before we discovered the resale market. There are a few benefits to buying from the developer, possibly including VIP status, PlusPartners/RCI Nightly Stay at no extra initial cost, free year of Leisure Plan. You may as well learn to use and enjoy these benefits.

The Fairfield/WVO system has many benefits but may take a while to learn to use well.

You mentioned that you bought a Hawaiian resort. Some Fairfield Hawaiian resorts are affiliated with the Outrigger Resort Club which would give you access to certain Outrigger resorts and hotels not available to many other Fairfield owners. I don't know if this benefit would have been available to you via resale.

RCI is actually two exchange systems with some crossover between them. The original one is RCI weeks in which you exchange your timeshare week (or set of FSP points) for a full week at another Resort. The RCI Points system allows you to exchange in days rather than weeks. Fairfield owners have access to RCI Points resorts via the RCI Nightly Stay program.

There is a sedction in the Fairfield Directory (you should have gotten one when you purchased from Fairfield) that explains how FSP points can be used for stays at RCI Points resorts via the PlusPartners/RCI Nightly Stay program. Basically 154K FSP points gets you a week in a 2BR red at any RCI Points resort, 105KFSP points gets a 1BR Red, 70K a red studio, etc. There's a grid that shows how many points are needed for a week, a weekend day, a weekday etc. for red (high), white (medium) and blue (low) seasons. You will have to call Fairfield to make a reservation at an RCI points resort and pay an exchange fee (less than you would pay for exchanging via the RCI weeks system, though).

we are now vip members with 315 k with 315 bonus points.

As noted above, the FF system can take some time to master.

But very briefly, you can
1) Use some or all of your 315K points to book time at Fairfield resorts - - up to 13 months in advance at your home resort (or possibly home group) and up to 10 months in advance at other Fairfield resorts. [Certain popular resorts/timeslots tend to fill up early, so the 13 month preference is a way to secure a high-demand slot at your home resort. Your 315K points belong to a 12-month period (not necessarily a calendar year) and they'll expire unless you use them for vacations during that period OR do something different with them as described below.

2) An alternative to using points to book time at Fairfield resorts is to hand those points over to RCI Weeks in exchange for the ability to book RCI Weeks vacations. Doing this costs RCI exchange fees that you wouldn't have to pay within the Fairfield system, but
(i) it provides access to thousands of RCI weeks properties world-wide
(ii) you may find that as few as 28k or 70k FF points will get you a very nice week's vacation, and
(iii) if your FF points are in danger of expiring, they can be deposited with RCI weeks as late as the final month of the FF year, and that deposit will qualify to exchange for RCI Weeks vacations anytime in the following two years.

3) Only vips can also apply FF points into the RCI points system, and since I'm not vip I can't tell you anything about that!

Anyway, that's a start.

You don't need VIP to access RCI points system. You need to be in their Plus Partnership program, which will give to you automatically when you buy from them, but will not be tranferred when you sell it, just like VIP right.

Confused... Why couldn't you have RCI benefits if you buy a FF resale?

You can deposit FF point to get RCI week inventory even if you purchase resell. However FF RCI point program is call Plus Partner and is not transfered through resell. So you can not use FF point to access RCI nightly stay inventory if you purchase resell unless you pay FF another $2,395 to joint that program. Once you are in that program, all your FF points will qualify including future resell purchase. A lot of resorts do that.

Presuming you have Gold VIP with bonus points, you might want to buy 315K resale to maintain your account at 630K when the Bonus Points expire.
