First post here so apologies if this repeats a question previously asked.

In Summer 2008 we purchased at Summer Bay Resort in Florida a week which gave us 53,500 points.

We purchased this on the basis that we were told clearly that we would be able to deposit our weeks into points as long as we had a points account, which we now have.

We have spoken to RCI now, and our resort, and we cannot do this. This is due to the fact that our weeks are at a resort that is not a points resort. Summer Bay told us this was not a problem and even their onsite RCI person confirmed this.

Are we in a pickle or is there something we are missing ?

Replying to my own question

I have just found information about Points for Deposit which sounds like it could be my answer. It seems that there are restrictions which may prevent me from doing this so has anyone got any information on this ?

Many thanks

If your weeks are at an RCI Points resort (even if you did not convert to Points), they cannot be used as Points for Deposit.

That is true, all you can do is pay Summer Bay a (too large of a) fee to convert that week you purchased into Points.

You can only use the Points for Deposit on Resorts that are NOT in RCI points already.

Obviously any Weeks resort you purchase may in fact at some point in the future, be converted to a points resorts, which then will immediately render your week as no longer eligible for deposit.

Thanks for the replies

It seems that the Points for Deposit only applies to the USA and not UK

As it stands I cannot use deposit my weeks as points which is what the Summer Bay team told me I could do.

My only steps at present are to convert my weeks to points and I have been quoted about £2500 for this or stop the monthly payments for the summer bay points and walk away.

Either way it is apparent that the Summer Bay people have lied, including the so-called RCI person there, and have conned us into purchasing there.

We have written to them but not had any reply so I am not holding up much hope!

It seemed such a great opportunity at the time but that is what selling is all about isn't ?

Welcome to TUG. This is all so painful to read how people are lied to over and over again and then the victims feel so bad when they finally find out that they have been scammed but their money is gone.

This industry has no shame at all! :bawl: :wall:

Did you purchase this resale or from the resort directly? If you purchased from the resort directly, and this past summer, then it should have been a purchase in RCI Points. If you bought resale then that is a different issue. Just want to make sure I understand your source of the purchase.

We purchased at Summer Bay direct from the Resort and the points size was 53500

We already have 2 weeks at our UK resort, which is not a points resort, and therefore, although we were told we could, we cannot deposit these weeks into points. Therefore, as it stands, for our weeks we continue with the Weeks Deposit / Exchange process and for our 53500 points we use the points system.

I would like to deposit my weeks, without converting them to points at a cost, as points to boost my 53500

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free

Maybe you could talk to someone else at RCI. I know they allow South Africa resorts that are not points resorts to be deposited under the Points-for-Deposit program. We own a U.S. points resort and we're able to deposit our South Africa non-points resorts in that program.

I was a little confused but now I am clearer. I thought you purchased Summer Bay and couldn't deposit them as points. However now I see that you purchased Summer Bay as points and now want to deposit your other NON point units into RCI Points for Deposit program.

I didn't no the USA vs UK vs SA made a difference. As another poster suggested perhaps another conversation is required.

There are a number of differences between how RCI Europe and RCI NA run their points programs, one of which is that RCI Europe has no points for deposit program. I wouldn't be totally surprised if the salesperson at Summer Bay was unaware of this. (Many TUGGERs, who are about as knowledgeable about timesharing as any group alive are unaware of this.)

Why not call Summer Bay and explain the situation (that you were told that you could use Points for Deposit, but as a European, that turns out not to be true). I doubt that they will do anything but you have nothing to lose.
