Favorite New England B&B

Anyone out there have a favorite B&B in the Vermont/NH/Maine area?

I have a friend who wants to spend his honeymoon up there in October, and he asked for some suggestions.

We are mostly doing timeshares these days (I offered that as an alternative), but I figured I would ask you all.

fave B&B's

Some of my faves include the Rabbit Hill Inn in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, beautiful and good food, also like the Inn at Thorn Hill in Jackson , NH. which also has a restaurant with the food included... gourmet in both... Kennebunkport has some nice ones too.. Captain Lord Mansion . For lots of listings, Yankee magazine has a good directory also. The above are great. :p
 
Oh lord...just typed a whole ton of info for you and my puter froze. Short version...

The Waybury Inn in Middlebury Vermont is charming as is the town...

I'd stay away from being actually in North Conway at that time of year unless they like traffic...with the outlet shopping there it gets VERY busy....but nearby Jackson NH has some very nice B&B's.

The Woodstock Inn in NH (North Woodstock) is lively with quieter houses across the street in an area that provides outstanding Moderate hiking that will lead them to fantastic views (Franconia notch area).

Warn them that if they're seeking foliage that Oct 10th-ish is peak (regardless of what the travel brochures may tell them). I lived in the White Mtns of NH for a number of years and cant tell you how many people were booked for "foliage" tours and vacations in the 3rd week of Oct thru the first week in Nov...and they were always disappointed to have missed it.

If they go to the Woodstock Inn...let me know and I'll make sure they get a nice room (I know the owners). (honestly...I like the Waybury Inn better(shhhh...dont tell)...but prefer the beauty of the Lincoln (Franconia) area and I love to hike there. If they like to hike and decide on that area...have them ask about hiking Bald Nob and Georgiana Falls (they'll have to get directions to the Georgiana trailhead...it can be tricky to find).


Wherever they go...I hope they have a good time. :)
 
Inn at Thorn Hill

I would second the vote for the Inn at Thorn Hill in Jackson - it's lovely! They had a fire a couple of years ago and rebuilt the inn from the ground up to look just like the old inn - wonderful restaurant and lounge as well as a full service spa on site!

B.K. (Before kids), my husband and I used to go to Vermont every fall to see the foliage. I can't recommend a specific B&B because it's been too long, but I do want to recommend the Bennington, Vermont area as a beautiful place to visit in October!

#2 on my list (where I stayed for my daughter's wedding a few years ago) is the Fitz Hugh Lane Cottage at the Inn at Sunrise Point, just north of Camden, Maine. Romantic, private, great view, with the surf of Penobscot Bay just a few feet away.
 
Jackson NH couples only B and B

For a couples only resort, I would recommend the Snowflake Inn in Jackson, NH. No children at the resort. Wife and I stayed there, and had a great time.

October is a busy month (foliage) so you should call as soon as possible no matter where you're staying.
