I've been listening to Christmas music this weekend and decided to start a thread here. What's your favorite Christmas song? I have two:

CeCe Winans sings my favorite version of "O Holy Night":

Mark Lowry sings this song best (in my opinion), probably because he wrote it:

My favorite is Pavarotti's O Holy Night. It's such a great song for a talented singer.

When this CD came out back in the 2000s, I was listening to SiriusXM's "Symphony Hall" station, and they played this medley. I was blown away! I had to buy the CD (I still have it), and it is probably the best arrangement of Christmas music. The singers are from the University of Indiana ("Singing Hoosiers").

My favorite SONG....regardless of singer, is O Holy Night (Nat King Cole, Celine Dion, and several others etc.)

For years, it was a TIE between TWO:

Do they know it's Christmas (Band Aid)

Mary's Boy Child, Boney M

But now it is a THREE-WAY Tie. Cloverton Hallelujah (I had posted weeks ago that this unfortunately is NOT for sale)

I hope the links work

I can no longer hear the 12 Days of Christmas without the Toto, just sayin'. A long-time favorite. :)

I also really love Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses:

And Christmastime for the Jews:

And John Legend's Baby, It's Cold Outside:

BTW, not many people know this, but Jingle Bells is not a Christmas song.
There nothing about Christmas in the lyrics.
In fact, it's more about horse racing and picking up women.

Verse 4...
Now the ground is white, go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight and sing this sleighing song
Just get a bobtailed bay, 240 as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh and crack, you'll take the lead...

I'm in shock if this is true. Gonna have to Google it.

More on Jingle Bells -- interesting back story. NOT written for Christmas.
And, I liked this:

Nine days before Christmas in 1965, the two astronauts aboard Gemini 6 had just completed a rendezvous with Gemini 7 when the crew suddenly gave a troubling report to Mission Control: “We have an object, looks like a satellite going from north to south, up in a polar orbit. He’s in a very low trajectory traveling from north to south and has a very high climbing ratio. It looks like it might even be a … Very low. Looks like he might be going to reenter soon. Stand by one … You might just let me try to pick up that thing.” The tense report of the unidentified flying object was suddenly broken by the sound of “Jingle Bells” with “Wally” Schirra playing a tiny harmonica accompanied by Tom Stafford shaking a handful of small sleigh bells they had brought along for the space voyage.

I think my favorite Christmas carol is Angels We Have Heard on High, because it feels good to sing it out loud. I love listening to O Holy Night too, but I can’t sing it, so I have to leave it to the professionals.

Rick sings O Holy Night beautifully. I cannot hold a tune for the life of me.

I have so many favorites to listen to, but no one wants to hear me sing. Drummer Boy by King and Country is one of my favorites. I also love Mary Did You Know? by Reba, Amy Grant and Vince Gill. I also love Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant.

"A Christmas Gift for you, from Phil Spector". is the only Christmas album I own. It's full of Christmas songs recorded by pop groups he was producing in the early 1960's. The songs were by the Ronettes, the Crystals, Darlene Love and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans. All the songs were recorded back in the heyday for these bands.

My great uncle (grandfather's brother) was a tenor and sang opera. He actually sang lead tenor in the first national opera radio broadcast. When we were kids, we would be embarrassed when he sang at church because everyone was looking at him and his wonderful voice could be heard throughout the church. He sang 'Oh Holy Night' beautifully.
