Fantastic JW Marriott opened in Venice from March 23, 2015

My wife and I spent 5 nights at Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection in October, 2014. That is also a Marriott Category 8.

We loved Venice and were very happy with the hotel.

One of the things we really liked in Venice was the opportunity to walk throughout the City, to get lost, and to find so many interesting things while walking. It was also nice to walk off our meals. And we enjoyed riding the vaporettos.

I wonder if we would be as happy staying in a small island off of Venice. I am concerned that, as nice as the new hotel is, if the vaporetto doesn't stop on the island, we might feel a little more like commuters and that might detract from our enjoyment of Venice.

I think the hotel has organized a free taxi service at least for the Lido, and St. Mark's Square, I try to call, since the phone is already up and give you information

I wondered what happened to this place as i think it was announced by Marriott a couple of years ago. It must have taken that time to upgrade it.

Beautiful indeed, but I wouldn't consider staying there. The beauty of Venice is not isolation but just walking, getting lost, shopping, seeing new places, sampling different restaurants, and seeing museums. Having to be shuttled from the island is a big negative to me.

I agree. The water taxi's are fun but not to go back and forth every time you want to go back to the hotel. It's like visiting NYC but staying on Staten Island. You can do it but it's not the same experience.

We travel extensively and for us location is everything. I am Platinum with Marriott and try to take advantage of the perks that go with it, but if the hotel is not in the best location, I will forgo those perks. We like to stay in the middle of the action and be able to walk everywhere. Many Marriotts are just not well located in our opinion.

A few cities where we chose NOT to stay in Marriotts (and we could have done so for free with points) - Venice, Istanbul, Dubai. In Venice we thought the Boscolo was not well located. In Istanbul we chose a hotel in the heart of the city and in Dubai we wanted to be downtown.

We are loyal only to a point.

Opening in March...we'll spend a 5-day certificate there mid-March for my wife's 50th birthday.

My understanding is that they have a rotuine free taxi and that it is a 15 minute ride over..... It might be a bit inconvenient, but part of the romantic... I do not see it as a problem going back and forth once or twice a day.
