We are planning a June 2009 trip to florida and would like some input from other members on a good family friendly beach resort with activities for younger children ( 6 and 3 ). We've been to disney alot of times but never set foot on a florida beach and would like to try something different this year. I've read lots of good reviews about the Ron Jon Resort, Disney's Vero Beach and the Resort on Cocoa Beach for the Atlantic Ocean side...but have no ideas for the Gulf side....someone suggested on another board to look into Tradewinds..but read some mixed reviews about that one. Can anyone suggest or have experience with some good family resorts on the gulf side? Thanks in Advance....

I can certainly recommend The Resort on Cocoa Beach. Great beach, water play area at the pool, poolside entertainment, all day movies, tennis courts, cheap hotdog and burger bbq. Nice units on a quiet stretch of Atlantic Ave. Very close to Ron Jons store. We were there last winter for a week and have exchanged into the resort this winter for 2 weeks. Alton

Disney's Vero Beach is an excellent choice. You will not see the characters in the resort theme, just a great beach experience with activities planned for kids, if you want to participate.

On a rainy day, the lobby became busy with many indoor activities for the kids. It was a great alternative to staying in our room.

Gulf Side

I think most timeshares on the gulf side consider the beach to be their amusement.

ps. We personally love the gulf side and live here part-time.

Try Marco Island

Hilton Marco Island resorts on the Gulf have great kids programs. What kid wouldn't want to build sand castles in the sand on the calm gulf coast and collect sea shells? Day trips could involve the Everglades which the kids would love to get on an air boat to see aligators from a safe distance. I suggest 1. Eagles Nest and 2. Charter Club.

We own Disney Timeshare and love Disney's vero beach. The beach is grogeous and they have sing a long campfires at at night. They have lots of kids ativities, a nice pool, a bar/rest where you can bring kids and they have entertainment. Not that you bring kids to a bar, its not really like that. You can order food and listen to the music. It is really beautiful. We usually split our trip between vero and orlando.

The St. Pete's/Clearwater beaches are very nice. Despite what you may have read about the Tradewinds resorts on St. Pete's beach they are for the most part quite nice. We stayed at the Sirata Beach Resort which is part of the Tradewinds complex and enjoyed it very much. There are watersports avaliable on the beach and (at least when we were there with our kids) childrens activities avaliable at the Tradewinds Island Grand.
