Exchanging week for Points

I have never done this and was looking to do this for the first time. I see that Marriott charges a fee to do this. Was there always a fee or is this something new?
 
I've never exchanged for points (my Marriott's were purchased resale) but I recall many years ago at a sales presentation being told that there was a fee to exchange for points. I believe it's $104.

So you pay your MF, give them the use of your 2 bedroom villa for 7 nights, pay $104 and receive points for 5 nights in a category 6 hotel?

edited: Sorry, I shouldn't be so negative! I know the points (especially travel packages) work very well for many people. It's difficult to accumulate that many points on hotel stays and a Marriott VISA. I love Marriott points!!

You can also buy points (up to 100,000 for 2 spouses) every year from Marriott for $0.0125 per point. I wouldn't advise you to trade your points in for hotel stays or airfares, but to save up to 540,000 MR points for two Category7 air+hotel packages that gives you 240,000 FF miles and 2 week long stays in Category 7 hotels. Right now, with the dollar situation, a Europe trip is real value for the points as it costs a fortune in cash otherwise. I figure that two biz class seats and 2 weeks in top hotels would set a cash payer back about $14,000.

There has always been a fee for turning in your week for points, and it's a nice benefit if you work the plan properly. As the previous poster says, it takes a long time to get 540,000 points buying groceries...but it all adds up sooner or later.

Just call your vacation advisor and they can assist you with trading in for points. I did that recently for my Shadow Ridge weeks. I would not trade in my points just for hotel stays - I would trade them in for travel packages which are hotel and air. It's a great value.
 
My travel packages I just bought:

2 weeks in category 6 timeshares
240 K FF miles (I used Usair).

That cost 500K Marriott points.

Well worth it IF you could only get FF miles wherever/whenever/without the premium. It's NOT easy - it's a hassle. But those of us who own developer - it CAN be done. I think 104 is the price, yes. But remember, if you do that, you don't need Interval (if it's your only timeshare) that year. I only buy one year Interval if I need it. Some years I use my timeshare or direct exchange it - so why pay them anything? Good luck!

Fees! Fees! and More fees!

Yes you have to pay $104.00 to trade your timeshare for points. But if you want to trade for another location with II you pay $79.00 for that privlige. The only way you get out from under is by staying at your home resort and never trading at all!
 
I believe the trade fee through II for a Marriott to Marriott trade is $99. Of course you have to add in your fee to be an II member which is $84 (I think).

We can't do that here in the states as I'm pretty sure bigamy is illegal in all 50 states :) (ok, maybe you can get away with it in Utah)

Brian - I will NOT have a second spouse just to get more Marriott points! One is ENOUGH!! You sure ARE a point junkie!!!!:hysterical:
