Question for the pros… I went ahead and booked a unit in Interval using my worldmark (request first, not deposit first). Because of the eplus disasters of the past I did NOT buy eplus because I assumed that, if I decided to cancel this, I would lose just the reservation fee (exchange fee) and that I would get to book something else using the week WM gave interval, I hope…? Can someone tells me how this works please?

Similar to you, I no longer use eplus with WorldMark (request first).
I just completed a WorldMark exchange cancellation today. I can confirm that it still works the same way it did before we got eplus.
  • Call the Interval Desk for WorldMark owners
  • Tell them you want to cancel your exchange
  • Tell them you want a replacement week (not a retrade).
Here's what you'll see, if they do it correctly.
Yes, no refund of the exchange fee and you'll have to pay another exchange fee when you book your next exchange.

Don't select the retrade (see screen captures below).

Can you share the Interval phone number for WM owners?

Confirming it is necessary to call? Meaning I can’t just cancel myself on the web, correct?

Correct. You can't cancel II exchanges online.

Ok, so I called the II desk for WM owners and attempted to do this and failed. I told the agent who picked up the phone that I wanted a "replacement week not a retrade" and she told me "You can't do this because you don't have insurance so if you cancel this you will lose the money and the week". Any advice? Should I just try in a little bit with a different agent or how else should I phrase this? @dioxide45 @alwysonvac

The rep is correct if it's less than 7 days prior to checkin.

The following is from page 7 of the Interval Guide - https://www.intervalworld.com/iimedia/pdf/iw/buyers-guide.pdf

Update: My reservation was for 9/21 which means as of today 8/10 I was > 30 days away so definitely not less than 7 days. I hung up on the first agent and tried my luck again and called and got an agent who seemed more knowledgeable. She cancelled my week and gave me a replacement week as @alwysonvac noted and provided printscreens for what it looks like if done right (thank you!). Could someone now tell me whether I need to call when I want to use this week or can I just click "Vacation Exchange" when I'm ready to find a new one?

Thanks for this, it is very informative. I may have to do this with a WM exchange. If I do cancel and get a replacement week more than 60 days out, am I supposed to get just as much trade power as I had before?

And am I correct (from the looks of the screenshots above) in concluding that we are unable to set up an ongoing search with a replacement week?

Trading power should be the same.

If you cancel 60 days or more, you can setup an ongoing search request.
If you cancel less than 60 days prior to check-in, your search is restricted (as described in post #8) therefore you cannot set up an ongoing search request.

You can find additional tips on the TUG Exchange forum. Here are a few examples:
