Exchanging for MR points vs. Renting

Another factor to remember is that all nights spent at MVCI properties count toward this lifetime requirement. While you don't get MR points on timeshare stays as there are no room monies collected like in a regular Marriott hotel, you do get points for money spent on property and/or the 500 points MR Platinum Bonus at check-in.

I would say that if you own a Marriott Timeshare, you should be a Marriott Rewards member. If not, you are short-changing yourself.

And get the Marriott Rewards Visa Card - To Pay Your Maintenance Fees (And Anything Else Marriott), for an extra 5 MR points per dollar spent.

Marriott CC holders receive automatic Silver status, 15 nights stay credit toward reaching Gold/Platinum each year, and a free night certificate for a Catagory 1-5 Hotel. The free night can more than cover the $85 annual fee. We love the Renaissance Raleigh North Hills (Cat. 5). $200 night. Not Bad.

I am a CC holder - I get all of the benefits you mention but I have never gotten the certificate

What color is your card. There is more than one. I have the Black one.

signature. Kind of a taupe color :) . My annual fee is a little less (I think $60), but for $25 and a free hotel room, I should upgrade. I've gotten offers for black but ignored it.

Thanks for the head's up.

$85 vs. $45. But for the 5 points per dollar (vs. 3) at Marriott, plus the free night, it's easily worth $40. Time to call Chase...

Well that was easy. Again thanks for the alert - I haven't paid for my DC enrollment yet, so I have you to thank for the 1,190 extra points. Not to mention the free hotel stay.

Happy to help. Glad it worked out.

My husband got the offer for 50K points on the Signature card (my DD refers to it as "Blackie") but right after he got his card Visa came out with a 70K offer. Call Chase and say you want the 70K offer.

Unfortunately I'm upgrading cards, not getting a new account, so I don't have a ton of leverage, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks.

Well that's easily solved, put the card in your wife's name. She will begin building points and stays on her account. You can use whichever card and MR account you want to building both accounts as needed. If you ever need to combine points for a reward it's very easy to do.

We both have cards.

Another great point. My brain isn't quite working properly today:confused:
